TJ's Pizzeria — Restaurant in Winthrop

We drove a long way on Sunday, May 22nd, 2022...to go out to eat at TJ's Place, one of our favorite places to eat. When we walked in, the girl with black hair looking like a washed up user said to us that they were closed. It was only 7:35pm. When we looked TJ's Place up on Google, on the way, it said they were open until 9pm. The waitress/bartender refused us food and service with a grin and laughed at us as we walked out the door after being told we couldn't sit down anywhere, yet, she didn't even know if we were there for food or just drinks. As a bartender myself, as well as a local business owner, that was the most insulting of interactions we have ever had with a server/bartender or a business. Times are tough these days...it must be nice to not need the tip money. She said to us that on Sunday nights, she gets to decide what time they close....that is so unreliable of a business and is so unprofessional and irresponsible of someone whose income is based on tips. We own a business in town Augusta and would NEVER turn customers away nor treat people or insult people the way that this washed up girl did to us. Then, as we were in the car in the parking lot, we looked inside and she was at a table that had 4 guests at it and they were all looking at us and laughing....certainly NOT appreciated. I assure you, WE WILL SPREAD THE GOOD WORD...

Still searching for my new favorite local pizza place, sadly this is not it. Canned mushrooms … gag (I should have asked when I ordered BUT I did not. My fault there but, IMHO it is a red flag in terms of quality ingredients.After picking them off I was left with the pepperoni which was standard. I will say the pizza was not overly greasy & I did like the flavor of their sauce, yet for a thinner dough it was quite chewy & just not my jam. Not horrible pizza but not great either. Turkey club was decent … yet another pet peeve … chopped up / shredded lettuce. Just put a dang leaf on it! Turkey had a good flavor & bacon was cooked well … kind of hard to mess up a club sandwich. Fries on the other hand (obviously frozen) we’re a solid C. Slightly undercooked and a tasted a little like old oil. They also forgot my coleslaw … The girl who waited on me was very nice however & as it was a pick up order I can’t give an assessment on service. Seemed clean and fairly standard. I’ve heard the wings are good so I’ll give them another shot … just...

To be honest, my expectations for this place was low. I was just hoping for food that would settle on my stomach. What I got was far better than that. My Husband ordered there Grilled Chicken Sandwich minus the tomato, and by golly George that was wonderful. It was perfectly cooked and a delightful juicy chicken. I ordered the grilled teriyaki chicken sandwich, granted what I got was chicken tenders covered in sauce, not something that I ordered but was corrected right away by the cooks throwing those tenders into a Kaiser bun with Swiss cheese, grilled pineapple, tomatoes and mayo. hell if they had that on the menu, I'd order it almost every single time. I typically hate chicken tenders for the simple fact that they are often overcooked and dry, these were not. They were juicy and cooked right...
