Had to pick up a load and little tavern was just outside the gate with AMPLE truck parking. The staff was great and the menu had anything most people would want.. Being Wisconsin, I wasn't sure if sweet tea was a thing, but... It was perfect! Not sugary, just lightly sweetened! Then, I thought I would throw the cook a curve ball so, I ordered zesty orange stir fry. It was way more than I bargained for so I left with a midnight snack! This was actually better stir fry than almost any Chinese restaurant I've been to! Everything was fresh! No apparent MSG! The egg roll was hot out of the pan and the salad bar was really good! I highly recommend! Especially for any truckers wanting a change from the norm. And, with the parking, I'm pretty sure you'd be safe having a beer and taking your break! Great experience! Thank you!
Addendum! I had to correct a typo above... Didn't notice until my second visit today as I was going to do a follow-up review... Anyhow, after a month, I returned to the same customer and remembered my last visit to Schueller's. I hate to place great expectations, especially on a place named Great Expectations, but, had I placed them, they would have been exceeded! The last trip was good! Really good! This trip was Great! Additional items on the salad bar, so, I made a full meal of that and got the Stir Fry Beef to go! I've not touched the stir fry yet, but, from the weight of the plate, I'll not go hungry for a week or so! 😄 The waitress was bubbles, smiles and a delightful dish herself! Extremely friendly atmosphere with down home patrons. I arrived to hear what seemed to be a group of truckers, at least they were using colorful trucker metaphors, as they told tales tall enough for Paul Bunyan. Then, the noon locals showed. Seems to be a place that people love to return to.... If I'm back this way, I'm certain I will! Thank you again for a pleasant moment relaxing off...
Read moreMy brother and I took our mother and wives to this restaurant for Mother’s Day. What a mistake. We had reservations in case there was a wait to be seated, but they weren’t needed. The waitress couldn’t answer my question about what beers were available so suggested that I go order directly from the bar. My wife asked for a daiquiri. The bar area was a little dim and the handles on the taps were in shadow so I had difficulty seeing them. So I told the bartender that my preference was for amber ales, and asked what did they have that might be close. She said the name of a beer and told me it was an amber. I asked to clarify if it was an amber ale or an amber lager. She said “it’s an amber”. Oh well. She also told me she didn’t know how to make a daiquiri so I settled for a wine for my wife. My brother and wife ordered chicken Alfredo and it was apparently good. My mother, wife and I ordered the Sunday night special of broasted chicken. It took quite a while but the chicken Alfredo was finally delivered. It was almost completely consumed before the broasted chicken was brought out. My wife asked for the 3 pc meal of white meat. She was delivered a breast and two wings (dark). The cole slaw brought out with the meals was pretty sad; grated cabbage with little else to make it interesting and drowning in the creamy sauce. When we were done and paid the bill, I asked the wait-person about the long wait. She told me it was because they had become swamped in take-out orders, which apparently take priority over those who are dining in. I have heard it is good for breakfast, but never again will I eat...
Read moreWe’ve tried so hard to give this place a chance, but we just can’t seem to make it in on a night with staff that are aware of their surroundings. Each of the three times we’ve stopped, once on an event night, the two bartenders were completely flippant and we were totally ignored while standing at the bar for over 20 minutes waiting for any acknowledgement that we wanted to be paying customers. When asking for a tap list (which required us to interrupt the seemingly unending conversations happening with regulars), we were directed to an outdated Untappd list via a QR code on the tables because the bartenders “don’t drink beer.”
The beer was flat and served in iced glasses. Whatever, I’ve had worse at more backwoods bars, but usually there’s something else to make people overlook a poor serving of draft beer…like food or service. Basically, plan on waiting over an hour to put an order in, and don’t expect anything special. And don’t go on a night they promote an event, it will not start on time, the bartenders won’t know what’s going on, and the food you thought you would get won’t be available.
We may be back to support local artists for their events, but we’ll eat and drink elsewhere prior to arriving so we can actually have...
