Captain Stan's Smokehouse — Restaurant in Woodbine

So it's not open until part way through the week. The hours are iffy and it's right around the corner from the county police station, a questionable location for a bar and grill. It's more or less outside so the weather affects the place substantially. All that being said the fire pits burning pretty well and if it's colder they have patio your heaters they use. The old sails cover the bar and seating well enough to provide shade and cover from the rain. The atmosphere is southern county through and through. There's no sawdust on the dance floor, it's straight dirt. The staff is friendly enough, especially once they get to know you. Stan is a good guy, and the food is pretty damn good. I've had better, but only in my own backyard. Their liquor and beer selection is way better than mine though, and their stage is a nice touch when they play live music. Cool collection of odds and ends to stare at, and they're not stingy with the drinks. The meat is smoked on site and the captain usually cooks in the kitchen. The music is a bit variable but you better like country, country and western, bluegrass, honky tonk, blues, and the occasional classic southern rock. There is only one Captain Stan's. It cannot be duplicated. If you love smoked pork and chicken, this is your place. Variety of food options which are consistently delicious. When in season they have specials: fresh local oysters & shrimp, Louisiana Crawfish. Environment is open style Eclective. During winter months there is always a fire to help keep you warm, as well as heaters. Summer time there is plenty of shade and fans to keep you cool. There are a wide range of Bands who come to entertain. If you love to dance, there is plenty of room for having a blast with the band. During the day it is family friendly, supper time is more adult friendly. When there is a large attendance, you may wait longer for your food but it is well worth the wait. Two years ago we stumbled upon Captain Stan's by taking the backroads. People often ask us why because it's longer. Places like this are exactly why.

Today we had the pleasure to visit again. If you want incredible BBQ and service, this is it!

They smoke their meat for 10 hours. Fall off the bone delicious! Homemade Sauces were delish, too! Enjoyed my collards and slaw although added Texas Pete's Pepper sauce to them all.

Nadia was our server. Attentive, charming and doted on Bandera. We are gonna keep in tough with go getter that's an apprentice in the Millworkers union. Love seeing women in the trades!
