As locals we enjoyed Surf Dog many times. Today we went in got the usually it was very different. From the chicken, to sauce, and portions. When I asked the waiter; he said they had a new head chef. My family ate their meals; I only ate the fries. When the bill came he took 50% off my meal. Meaning I paid $8 for fries. Not the waiters fault but I feel like that could have been done differently. At any rate if anyone from there sees this review your new chef made to many changes that have directly effected the quality. Be a while before we try again.

... Update we tried again on 10/11/25. It was even worse! Food gross, waiter never bring us or asked even if we wanted more to drink. Food served was not as it was listed on menu. I honestly thought it was just us until I hear another table complaining to the waiter about his food not being as listed on menu. He asked for the menu to show them. This place is a mess & we are done. It's only food for drinking and I guess if you do enough of that you won't care the food is gross. Side note...

Trivia and Atmostphere were awesome! Everything else was lackluster at best. It took 15-20 minutes for soft drinks, the food was meh. The wrong dressing was served with the salad. Too much rosemary in the French Onion Soup. When the food was served one person in our party didn’t get theirs for another 5 minutes or so (so it all didn’t come out at the same time). The appetizer that was ordered came with the entrees. One of our party asked the difference between the difference with Mac and cheese with a crab cake added and the crab cake dinner. We were told they would be about the same price and the dinner was $15 more. Additionally, the restaurant added a 20% gratuity to the bill. Another bill was paid for by cash and applied to the wrong bill, which would have resulted in a $42 tip for the waitress, which she did not earn. We had this corrected, and we appreciate that! We would not recommend...

WOODBINE: What is not to love about a restaurant with a bulldog logo and “dog” in the name?

Surf Dog Bar and Grill is a laid-back American-style spot with a beautiful outdoor patio that is dog-friendly. Tropical vibes, TVs for catching the game, and even a fountain that adds a touch of charm to the atmosphere.

Well-behaved, leashed pups are welcome through the main entrance and can head straight to the patio for a relaxed dining experience. The menu is packed with favorites, and the staff is more than happy to accommodate dietary needs.

We especially love their nod to other local businesses, check out the New Jersey craft beer selections alongside an extensive drink list. Happy Hour runs Tuesday–Saturday from 4–6 PM and Sundays from 3–5 PM, with great food and drink specials.

For those who enjoy a good cigar, Surf Dog also offers a large selection available...

As a 1st time customer, I found the business had a great menu selection providing unique items that tasted great. My son ordered a Philly Cheesesteak pizza and ate the whole thing in one sitting. (He's 12 at 100lbs) I can't vouch for his taste buds but he said he really liked it. The bang bang chicken Sandwich tasted great. The service was great too. The manager/owner (idk) checked on all customers, a couple of times,to see how everyone was doing, which was nice. Our server was nice and probably more pleasantly sociable as a Chick-fil-A employee. My experience lead me to tip well and I hope that your experience will be the same. The restaurant was clean and the bathrooms were also.

We stopped here on the way home from Cape May. Homemade chicken salad with walnuts & grapes. It had chunks of chicken not shredded. It was delicious. Hubby had the fried pickle burger 🍔 and he ate every last bite of it. 🤣. We both upgraded to fries which were excellent. The bartender/server was friendly and service was good. We found out she is the owner’s daughter. The restaurant and bathroom were both neat and clean. They do offer outside seating which permits dogs. We got to meet their new mascot, an 8 week old mini sheepadoodle, so cute! Side note: they offer a rewards program. PS 3% credit card fee.
