Always in great condition, OGA course has a lot going for it. Two things keep it from 5 stars. First, location. For Portlanders, comparable quality at Ghost Creek, The Reserve, Langdon Farms, and Stone Creek, makes a trek to OGA feel further out than it is. Second, and everyone has opinions, but a few gimmicky holes really squeeze some of the joy out of OGA. #3 is the first taste, 185 with water right, welcome to where it goes sideways. #4 is just unfun, a layup off the tee, on a par 5, to then play over junk with a tilted fairway and hazard right, to a tilted and seemingly unplanned green. No joy, not a birdie hole at all, on a par 5. Then #5, back to back par 5s (front side is 3 each par 3,4,5) and it’s tight, too far left, junk, trees on the right, and even with a solid tee shot, a real slug to a well guarded green with hazard all along the left and long of the green. One of these, ok, but back to back? Goofy. #7 then, is a 160 layup par four with another 160 into a tilted green over junk. Short, but not very scoreable. So, that’s three goofy holes in a four hole stretch on the front. It evens out after that and is pretty fair and fun the rest of the way. Very walkable, and like I said, great conditions, greens faster and truer than other Portland metro public options (Witch Hollow is the only one I found faster on the putting surface) I’ll play the qualifiers there, but probably not again for a...
Read moreThis course and facility needs some attention. I played on Sept 11th with 4 groups and was surprised at the deteriorated condition of the course & facilities, especially the tee boxes, the greens and the actual cutout of the holes. Normally, I enjoy the drive down from Portland to play OGA Course. Most of the tee boxes were beat up, full of divots , very uneven and not properly sanded or in need of heavy reseeding and rest. Greens had quite a few ball marks left unrepaired. And quite honestly, most the holes seemed like they were cut out by someone who did this for the first time. The hole edges were all rough and beat up that it actually affected the roll of the balls. Very poor job here. The sand traps also need attention. Less than 1/4 inch of sand on top of very hard under layer. And the clubhouse is in need of some deep cleaning. Carpets had noticeable, huge dark stains that even the staff commented on them. The men's restroom had a huge hole in the wall (left unrepaired) where the door knob hits the wall. I hope OGA puts some attention to getting this place back to where it used to be. I usually enjoy...
Read moreMy rating has nothing to do with the course as this course is beautiful and well kept.
My experience golfing here on 8/21/2022 was extremely poor. Our group was constantly harassed by course officials for “playing to slow” while we were stuck behind 2 groups who were walking the course. We had to wait up to 10 minutes before teeing off on every hole due to the other group being in the fairway yet the official was approaching us to speed up our gameplay. The course Marshal finally comes out at the 14th hole, and tells us to speed up our play before realizing that there’s another group in the fairway right in front of us. After speaking to the group infront he came back, and said “it’s a busy day on the course. I guess everyone is backed up today” and left us alone for the last 4 holes. We finished 18 in under 3 1/2 hours which is a very respectable pace. As a group we spent over $2000 at this course, and I have never been treated worse in my years as a golfer. If you are looking for local courses to golf at I would recommend Langdon Farms or...
