A disappointing visit. I've heard much about Sweet Evalina's (SE) since coming to the area awhile back. Unfortunately, the realities I experienced fell somewhat short of the reputation.
Restaurant management allowed 5 young teenagers to order and pay for ice cream dishes by individual credit card - some of the youngsters' bought more than one dish - and paid with more than one credit card transaction. This took well over 20 minutes. Several patrons we're lined up behind us. All we're feeling quite exasperated.
When all the teens had been served and 're-served', it came time for us to place our order - for two scoops of ice cream. The young server behind the counter took our order and disappeared. It took another 10 minutes for the ice cream to show up.
I understand that restaurants are having difficulty getting quality help. I also think some decisions made by restaurant owners play into that difficulty. Also, it seems that owners can take a bit more responsibility helping to set and communicate service standards with their crew - and importantly, with their customers.
There are excellent takeout restaurants in our area IMHO, Deary's just off of rte. 12 in Putnam is one.
I see no reason to revisit...
Read moreHave been ordering for awhile from here. It seems the quality of the food as gone down in the last year or so. Our food as been as we ordered but the quality of it as been not so great. Pizza has either greasy to the point even if I wait a half hour when I take a slice about half the topings would come off with it. My gf loves the hand cut fries but for some reason that have been less to her liking. They told me it was probably due to them getting a new fry cook. But I got pizza tonight and it's still the same. Toppings coming off and the due under the toppings like greasy. I noticed also do glove wearing... I'm not a fan of this. With all that is happening these days I would think glove wearing would be a big part of food safety. I mean every fast food place wears gloves. Well I hope I gets better. We do really...
Read moreThis place doesn't look like much from the outside just outside of Woodstock, Ct. They have a walk up order place with a picnic pavilion overlooking a large pond. They have several different dining areas inside the building. My sisters and I were on a genealogy tour of Woodstock as we are direct descendants of one of the original founders - Lt. Henry Bowen in 1686.
We took a chance on Sweet Evalina's as there are not many places to eat near Woodstock and what a pleasant surprise. Lots of good home cooked food with great service from no nonsense waitresses at very reasonable prices. One of the more interesting parts was selecting your own beverage from the large carryout beverage cooler and then she adds the beverage to your tab. Don't miss this place if are...
