The Old Gin — Restaurant in Wortham

I’ll start this just saying that this is a complaint. I recommended this restaurant to my mother after eating there once with my coworkers for lunch and I had a really good experience. Tonight 11/9/2022 my mother placed an online order for our family. It stated our order would be ready at 6:57pm we arrived at 7pm to pick up our food. She parked in the front. ( mind you she has never been there) she went in the main entrance to wait for approx 5 minutes before any staff making contact. Once a staff came over that staff was extremely rude stating to my mother that she came in the wrong door and she needs to go wait over there. This staff did not show my mother where to go and attempted to walk away before my mother had to stop her and ask exactly where she was supposed to go. Once in the correct area no one help my mother for ten minutes while multiple staff walked by. One staff finally talked to my mom and got her name for the order and then gave her a receipt to sign and disappeared. Again my mom waited till a nice young lady came by and asked my mom if she was helped and my mom told her she was waiting for her order. This nice staff checked and said it looked like they were boxing it up now and it shouldn’t be long. This nice lady then also disappeared. Then the same staff my mom first had contact with told my mom she was in the way and needs to move or sit down or something. My mom said “ well I’ll just go wait in my car if you can tell me how much longer till the food is ready?” This staff replied 5 minutes but you need to walk out the back door cause you can’t walk through the dining area. So my mother does as told only to find there is no way to get back to the front parking lot without walking down the street in the dark and then walking on hwy14 and around back to our car. We then drove to back side to the apparent pick up area and was finally able to get the food. We left at 7:40pm mind you that is almost an hour of mostly rude staff berating my mother and making her cry for not knowing anything about a restaurant that she’s never been too. If the restaurant is so keen on having the to go order picked up in the back please just put up signs that say that. It’s truly not hard. Or maybe instruct your staff to give directions on how to drive around to the back and go in that entrance. I truly do not appreciate having recommended a restaurant for my mother to have such a truly horrible experience. I will be telling everyone to not go there and will only be giving bad recommendations going forward. I hope the owner or manager uses this as a chance to improve the restaurant so this does not...

Steak was expensive and overcooked but delicious flavor. Mashed potatoes taste exactly like instant, really disappointing. Cole slaw was ok.

Chicken fried steak was chewy and breading falling off. Baked potato was ok, bacon was very burnt. Mac and cheese was mediocre.

The cheese sausage plate was a hilarious joke. $12 for some ritz crackers, slimy pickles from a jar, a little bit of sliced summer sausage, some good honey mustard and "ok" pimento cheese. When it arrived I literally laughed. Better to just not even serve something like this.

Service was not great. The Ritz crackers took like 15 minutes to come out, super odd. I was thinking ok they are cooking a sausage to slice, but then when it came with cold sliced summer sausage the wait was absurd. 15 minutes for some ritz and packaged cold sausage. Ok.

Server was disappointing. Not friendly and didn't check on us or ask anything. When the entrees came she just dropped them off and immediately walked away, leaving my wife calling after her for some napkins. Zero service skills.

Beer was served in big chilled mugs, very nice.

Overall way too expensive to get mediocre service and Ritz crackers with instant mashed potatoes. Steak was damn delicious but for $28 it was as expected.

I almost gave 3 stars because of that steak but I just couldn't considering the other food and service. The atmosphere inside is what you would expect in a bigger city and is deceptive from the outside. I do applaud the remodel.

Ditch the crackers or upgrade the sausage. Even just a bigger plate and better presentation would help on that one. Improve on service. For the town it's in this has amazing potential, just needs some...

I absolutely praise the name of this restaurant the girls are so sweet and politeask for Brooklyn or pam the bartender no t a bunch of hussies in teeny short real girls awesome personalities and they do there absolutely wonderful the building is a rustic old gin do not let the ridiculous corner u have to turn around the building to find the front door from parking fool u i they have a dance floor they have great food from real country cooks who can do it right tex mex is to die for if u dont try the gin nachos to go ur stupid the price doesn't put weigh the amount they give u is amazing is 😍 c ask the lady with the computer open sitting g there always she's manager and her niece is the best waitress there it's secluded from the world in this whole in the wall town with nothing but cows and goats downtown in city limits with police dept that literally closes at five pm a ranchers gas station that has a casino in it for cash and a fertilizer plant ... But this gem of a building for those interested in architecture and the food atmosphere place and times to unwind at. The bar the specials it's the best place to both have a family meal unwind d after a long day without the craziness of a lot of rowdy behavior and with drama if u drive past it your a fool this place is one of my favorite restaurants in n the world and I'm not an easy sell but they have atmosphere they have people service and great food and.prices dont drive by it the next good place is 30 miles away trust me come see them then go to Mexia...
