We drive out from Augusta to Wrens just to come to Peggy’s. It’s literally a straight shot down deans bridge. It can be a little bit of a drive but it’s pleasant and it’s worth it. Place is quaint, make your own parking outside. They have a revolving menu so depending on the day, items change. Today, for example, they offered sausages, fried pork chops, fried chicken and beef tips in gravy as the ‘meat’ and sides such as black eyed peas, macaroni and cheese, cabbage, white rice, Lima beans, green beans etc. it also appears that they do ‘made-to-order’ items as well such as sandwiches and fries and most of those meals were like $5.99. Our two lunch meals ( beef tips/ gravy/white rice/cabbage/black eyed peas and 2 fried pork chops/Macncheese/cabbage/riceandgravy) and 2 sweet teas w free refills came out to $22. The employees are extremely friendly and it seems to be a local favorite. We watched an older gentleman leaving and hold the door for another older gentleman coming in, they both knew each other and you could tell they’ve been coming here forever! You can dine in or take out (I met my husband for lunch on his break while working in Wrens so we got to go containers but ate inside). They didn’t ask us to pay for our meal until we were finished which I thought was very nice of them. They also have an assortment of desserts as well. Good soul food, cheap, large portions and friendly employees. If you’re ever in this area, I’d...
Read moreI traveled down to Georgia from New Hampshire on a business trip, with hopes to find true southern cuisine. After many failed attempts - I found Peggy's. Upon walking in, you feel welcome, the smell brings excitement and comfort. The staff is friendly, fast, and welcoming. It is extremely clean with a wide variety of delicious food. Being a chef who loves to seek the best of foods, I tried almost everything. The fried chicken and fish was cooked to perfection, the meatloaf was extremely moist and flavorful. There is a huge variety of sides, and every single one was phenomenal. I especially loved the yams, cabbage, and the AMAZING fresh rolls. To top it off, delicious endless sweet tea comes with the meal. Coming to Peggy's isn't just getting a meal. It is an experience with amazing people with a meal that you will never forget. Although it's nearly 1000 miles away, I can't wait to come back and enjoy it all over again. Thank...
Read moreMy 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren ate here on December 28, on our way from South Georgia to South Carolina, and this was the best country restaurant food we have ever had!!! The fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, black eyed peas, lima beans, and sweet potatoes were excellent. They have a small cafeteria, so you can get your food quickly, and see what it is before you get it. Earlier on our trip it took 2 hours to eat at 2 other restaurants, but not here! The restaurant appears unassuming on the outside, because it was apparently originally a gas station, but the interior had very nice tables and decor. The people working there were friendly and good natured. We ate at 3:30 PM on a Saturday, and even then, there were 4 or 5 tables of well to do, probably local people also eating. There is not much parking directly at the restaurant, but plenty of parallel parking around the street corner. If you like good country food, eat...
