My wife and I decided to go for dinner on a Saturday night. When I tried to make the reservation I was told there were only 2 tables available .... one by the door or a high top in the bar area. I declined both and was offered a phone call if a table in the dining area opened up. Much to my (pleasant) surprise I got a call a few hours later that a table had become available and we took it.
I asked my server whether I should have the burger or the French dip. She recommended the burger. It was fine ... not great. It didn't live up to the recommendation or the reviews. It was cooked the way I ordered (medium rare) but it lacked the good char usually associated with a flat top burger. I suspect the grill wasn't hot enough.
My wife had the shrimp and scallop scampi. The portion was generous, the shrimp had the trails removed and the scallops were large. Unfortunately, the dish was over seasoned with pepper.
The drinks from the bar --- 2 espresso martinis ---- were inconsistent with one having too much alcohol.
The dining room was noisy and our table for two was right in the flow of all the traffic. I know they are a necessity but I'm not a fan of a table for two as they become over crowded once a few dishes are on them.
All in all the Wycomb House is probably better suited for some quick apps or light fare.
I think my expectations...
Read moreVery disappointing. We went back for a girls lunch to celebrate a friends birthday. Waiter was extremely rude. I had to flag him down after 20 minutes of not even bringing us water or acknowledging our presence. Refused to even come to table to give us water because not all of our party was present. We explained that the fourth person in our party was coming “just for dessert” from the start. This was at 1:30…late lunchtime and there was NOT a crowd. I went up to the bar to order a bottle of champagne since we were there to celebrate a friends birthday and she said sorry, I have to ask management if I’m allowed to even sell it by the bottle.??? waiter came over in a huff, said he was the only person working. Understandably, I could see he was flustered. We explained that we were just there to have a nice outing and if we could just get a drink that could set the mood right. Unfortunately, his attitude was not one we were going to change. We ended up leaving and going to the Pineville Tavern, which was absolutely lovely …the service food and atmosphere 1000 times better than this place and literally two minutes away. Don’t waste your time here. Sad because the renovations look nice and food was decent when we tried it before but need...
Read moreI went there last Friday for lunch with 6 other friends. The server didn’t know anything and had to ask someone everything we asked him. The food was inedible. Two of us ordered the shrimp and pineapple skewers. The shrimp was mushy and had a terrible taste. We sent them back and ordered the portobello mushroom, but the server came back saying they didn’t have it. I ordered a a blt and my friend ordered a grilled cheese. We got them about a half hour later when our friends were all done. My blt was fine, but I only ate a piece and took the rest home because everyone else had been finished eating for quite some time. The grilled cheese was so greasy that my friend couldn’t even eat it. The fries were undercooked. Two of my friends ordered the roast beef sandwich au jus. The au jus was a thick dark brown gravy. The chef insisted that was au jus. Another person had coconut shrimp that was burnt. The hamburgers were passable, but not cooked to order. We live in a large 55+ community in Newtown and were hoping to add this restaurant to our luncheon list. Instead, we have spread the word not to go there. The fact that a manager did not come over to apologize or see what he could do was proof that this restaurant...
