The Oak CafĂ© is a nice neighborhood place. Itâs not really what I would call a âcafĂ©â; Iâd describe it as a neighborhood tavern or bar and grill. Regardless, it's a quaint place in the sense that it is truly an old fashioned, neighborhood tavern â think âCheersâ with food. The walls are decorated with Detroit sports memorabilia â Wings, Tigers, Lions and Pistons.
Unlike the old taverns, The Oak CafĂ© has a nice selection of craft-brewed beers â many on tap, more in bottles. The food is good, too. Our party of 4 stopped in for lunch. One had the hamburger of the day, another had the Russian (on black rye with thousand island dressing), another had a paddy melt and I had a Reuben. All sandwiches are served with a bag of chips, a small cup of coleslaw and a slice of pickle; French fries are available at additional cost. We all enjoyed our meals and thought the food was well prepared.
Our waitress was a long-time employee. She was very attentive; anytime anyoneâs (non-alcoholic) drink was close to being empty, she was there to refill it. For those of us with alcoholic drinks, she inquired as to whether we would like another. She stopped by several times to ensure we were enjoying our meals. The prices are very reasonable.
Iâd recommend The Oak CafĂ© with one note of caution: be aware, they do NOT take credit cards. So, make sure you have cash with you or be prepared to use the ATM...
Read moreFirst time visiting as it was really hyped up from friends who are from this area. Esthetic matched that of main st pub in kzoo on main st, but food and drink selection is not even close in comparison (this was edible and small portions and coleslaw is nasty). Thought it was strange to get a bag of better made chips when I'm accustomed to chips made in house.
Also, this is only a cash establishment which makes absolutely no sense when it is a common thing to put a card on file to run a tab. So, come with a load of cash otherwise you have to use the Atm.
So, only 3 stars because it just didn't meld with what I expect from a bar with food and one that is supposed to have...
Read moreWent there for lunch today. Service was ok, nice looking menu. Food was ok. (Used to go here yrs ago when Al owned it). When the bill came I put cash down on the table for a tip and wanted to pay with a credit card. The server said he couldn't take a credit card today? And something like they would be able to in a couple days? Ok I said. ,(It was my turn to treat my friend), luckily my friend had a 20.00 to cover the rest. Bill was almost 40.00 plus 10.00 tip. Shouldn't the server let customers know as soon as they greet you that it's cash only today? What if we didn't have...
