I visited the Curley Cone for the very first time this past Sunday afternoon, and I absolutely loved it! My daughter introduced me to this place, being that she recently moved to Shelbyville. I took the drive from GR to have lunch with her at the Curley Cone and it was well worth it :) The interior of the restaurant is so pretty and very clean. The whole place looks like an authentic 50's diner all done in "ice cream" pastel colors. They had their Christmas decorations and tree up when we went, being that it was in Dec, and it just added to the atmosphere. Our server was extremely polite and professional. She came back to check on us throughout the meal and was very helpful answering any questions we had. I ordered the California Dream sandwich and it was absolutely delicious with all fresh ingredients. I was especially impressed by the fresh spinach on the sandwich, which is a good, healthy option as opposed to ice berg lettuce, which is what you'd normally get on a restaurant sandwich. I should also mention that their house coffee is to die for! I had a very hard time deciding what desserts to order, because there are just so many options and they all look incredible. I ended up ordering 2 pieces of the Reese's Pie to go, for my husband and I later, and let me tell you that this pie was definitely homemade from scratch (as advertised) and probably one of the best desserts I've ever had. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. I know some other reviewers mentioned a long wait time to get their food, but I didn't experience that. Granted, I was there in Dec, so not during their busy season. I imagine this place is packed to the rafters during the summer though, simply because there's no other place like it in town, and their food is such a high quality. I cannot recommend this place enough and I would be totally willing to drive out there again from GR the very next...
Read moreThirsty Buddy's this place is awesome. The food I've tried is really good not a large selection but that's ok. Drinks are great, bartender was awesome as well as the staff. I've read all these negative reviews and I think its pretty sad that people no longer take the time to talk to the owners and share their concerns/frustrations instead of using social media to slam an establishment. This is a change of atmosphere for the area, a chance for adults to unwind and be amongst adults and enjoy music and socializing in a classy environment. It sounds like some people have a dislike for the owners and aren't being fair or mature with their comments. Quite frankly I'd expect more from the Gun Lake Community. Be adults and resolve the issues as adults. We're supposed to support our community and new businesses as it only benefits us all. New jobs, good food without having to travel far, opportunities for many things in our community. No restaurant I've ever been to has been perfect every time. If you don't like that no kids are welcomed under the age of 18yrs, don't go. If you don't think there should be a cover charge for musicians, don't go, but apparently you aren't aware of the costs to bring talent to the area for your enjoyment. I've thought about investing in a restaurant business myself, but if this is the kind of support I'd receive from my community that I've lived in for 60yrs I think my investment would do better elsewhere. 1 or 2 incidents shouldn't result in such bad reviews. Reviews are 1 sided stories. Make your own review by trying this place out. Im certain you won't be...
Read moreThe food at the new Curley Cone location is greatly improved over that of its previous location down the way. I assume this is because there is an actual full-size kitchen available. Instead of mediocre hamburgers of old, they now have excellent burgers, for example. And, the gyros are surprisingly good for a non-Greek establishment. The more expensive dinner platters ($10-$12 range) are excellent, and are bargains (in my opinion). You can get a good dinner here -- beyond the usual hamburger/hot dog of old. And it will not be expensive. I've had the shrimp, and the hot wings and the burrito -- all excellent. Way beyond what you would expect at an ice cream place. The bakery section has some very good bakery items -- again, this is new to this location.
The same ice cream options are available as before, with options for upscale dipped waffle cones. But, on my recent visit, I decided to splurge $2.50 for a dipped waffle cone. The cashier asked if I was sure that I wanted to spend $4 for this extra. I was confused, since the different cones are displayed with prices in front -- and it said $2.50. The cashier said, Oh- we changed the price. Not cool. The owner should maintain accurate prices on the items and should honor those prices.
There are tables inside, and a few outside. There is no shade, however. The outside needs umbrellas. Six pickleball courts are under construction next to Curley Cone. Not sure if these will be free to the public. Hopefully,...
