I recently had the pleasure of dining at a charming brunch spot that truly captivated me with its ambiance. Nestled alongside a boat marina, the seating arrangement was thoughtfully designed to create an inviting atmosphere that felt spacious rather than crowded, even during the busy brunch hours.
Our experience was further elevated by our exceptional waitress, who struck the perfect balance of attentiveness and friendliness. She was knowledgeable about the menu and offered insightful recommendations, making us feel welcomed and well-cared-for throughout our meal.
We began our culinary journey with the Bang Bang Shrimp, which was outstanding. As someone who often finds fried shrimp either greasy or tough and quite disappointing, I was thrilled to discover that this dish fell into the a better category in this restaurant. The shrimp were perfectly cooked—crispy on the outside and tender within—earning a solid 9.5/10 from me.
Next, we tried the mussels, served in a wine sauce that unfortunately overpowered the dish with its alcohol content. I had hoped for a more balanced reduction, and while the mussels themselves were still enjoyable, the overall experience rated a modest 5/10.
My daughter and cousin opted for the steak and eggs, and I must confess, I regretted not ordering it for myself. The steak was incredibly tender and bursting with flavor, a highlight of the meal. The home fries were decent, but it was the steak that truly carried the dish, resulting in an average score of 7/10.
I ordered the Korean BBQ Benedict, expecting a harmonious blend of flavors, but was disappointed. The short rib was tough, making it challenging to cut into bite-sized pieces, and the sauce lacked the depth of flavor I anticipated. This dish only garnered a 3/10 from me.
However, the drinks were a revelation. I indulged in a pumpkin cider that was simply delightful—semi-sweet, refreshing, and arguably one of the best ciders I've ever had, deserving a perfect 10/10. My cousin enjoyed two pumpkin martinis (I tried them), which were equally impressive; they combined rich autumn flavors without an overpowering alcohol presence, earning them a well-deserved 10/10 as well.
Overall, while there were a few misses, the ambiance, service, and standout drinks made for a memorable brunch experience. I look forward to returning to explore more of the menu and hopefully discover...
Read moreWe generally go out to eat at a physical location once a week, and have run through the gamet of many Portland locations. My husband was craving salmon and found this spot. I have certainly heard of it, but have never had the opportunity to eat here, so we packed our three year old in the car and headed north. I made an online reservation and we arrived super early, but were seated right away. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the view over the water is incredibly peaceful. The waitstaff were extremely well dressed and friendly, which I always appreciate while dining with a child! (Its easy to tell who isnt happy about waiting on a table with kids, and they definitely made us feel right at home) We started with wings, the foccia platter (which comes with pesto, marinara sauce, and an olive oil/balsamic blend), calamari, and 3 oysters. Everything was absolutely delicious!! The portions were much larger than I anticipated . The oysters were clean and fresh and displayed nicely on a bed of ice. The calamari was crispy and perfectly cooked. The foccacia was fluffy, flavorful, and the sauces were perfectly matched. My husband loved his wings, as did our daughter. I had a couple bites of everything and realized that per usual, we had over ordered!!! I asked for containers to take everything home...and then the main courses arrived. 🤣 My husband ordered blackened salmon, a side of mashed potatoes, and grilled asparagus. I ordered 2 more oysters and the mussels. Again, everything was cooked to perfection and full of well balanced flavor and thoughtful presentation. We ended up tasting everything and then packing the rest to go. I wish I had remembered to ask our waitress her name...she was awesome! We had our leftovers for dinner and I am still as impressed as I was at lunch . We will definitely be back to try the dinner menu. I am excited to have eaten here finally, and look forward to...
Read moreAugust 3, 2022 - “Touch of Class” best describes our lunch dining experience at the R.R.G.H.! What’s not to like . . . Sitting either inside or outside over looking the Harbor in Yarmouth on a sunny day in Maine!
After picking up our Maryland friend at the Portland Jetport, my wife and I wanted an iconic Maine spot for lunch so we remembered how much we enjoyed this restaurant for dinner a year ago. Jacky , our server, pleasantly answered all of our questions , allowing us time to converse (with our Maryland friend) , and look over all the choices on the menu. Vegetarian & gluten free options are available!
Good selection of seasonal mixed drinks! We each enjoyed our “well constructed” cocktails. . . my Blackberry margarita, wife’s Arnold Palmer, MD friend’s Gooseberry Bellini ( generous pour of vodka, berry purée, white cranberry base in a modified bottle of vodka cut into a tall glass)!
My litmus test for quality seafood is the New England Chowder. . . I liked the ingredients in the chowder, and mentioned to Jacky to pass along a compliment about the perfect cooking of the potatoes ( not mushy, just cooked enough ) to the Chef!
My wife ordered the Salmon burger, which she enjoyed! Our MD friend loved her delicious haddock sandwich on a bun! I ordered the fish & chips. . . Enjoyed the seasoned truffle fries, but was disappointed with my “ cut up” fish ? The smaller pieces created a greater ratio of fried outer crust to fresh fish ? Oh well, next time a different entree.
Jacky talked us into dessert . . . Fresh homemade blueberry cheese cake we split with 3 forks! Perfect lunch ! Thank you!
Compliments to Edward Manganello for a top notch dining restaurant harbor side in Yarmouth! Thanks & credit to Nicola on restaurant renovations!
