I've been going to York/Ogunquit for over 10 yrs and this was the worst overall experience I've ever had at a fine dining restaurant. We looked forward to going here for a week and now will never return. The menu was limited and overloaded on the chicken/pasta options. The chef clearly was the biggest disappointment. The "Lobster Purses" appetizer was soaking in an entire plate of oil to the point it was not worth eating b/c all one could taste was the oil. The beet and goat cheese appetizer had 4 tiny slices of beets but full of almost whole tomatoes just plopped on the plate. The homemade pasta came in 1 size--unfortunately the chef didn't realize he could have changed the attachment to the pasta maker and made a variety of options. The pasta was so thick it seemed like I was eating uncooked dough. The rest of the unreasonably huge portion of the entree seemed like an amateur chef contest with piles of melted cheese and a few vegetables tossed on top of the mound of pasta. Both of our entrees were a disaster.
Instead of 1 waitress waiting on a table there were 3 running around like the restaurant was a running track. None of them knew what we had ordered, how long we had been waiting (over 45 minutes for chicken marsala), no one could give us water for some reason and there was nothing to keep the white wine even partially chilled.
We went from a highly anticipated dinner to experiencing a restaurant disaster. Our experience seems to be the norm so I recommend enjoying a...
Read moreEclectic, cozy little place located just as you head into Ogunquit downtown. Reservations are advised, as it was very busy. Customers were definitely having a fun time. It was a loud and festive atmosphere. The service team were working their tails off, hustling. Their specialty cocktails were creative and tasty. As for the food, it was evident that everything was scratch-made. This was mostly a positive for us, but not with all items. The bread was chewy & fresh. The Caesar came with my entree. A little odd that it had kale and spinach in it, not traditional. The chowder was a little watery and not memorable. The haddock entrees were both mediocre flavor-wise, but huge portions. The haddock both had to be 16oz. portions each and fresh. Potatoes were thin, bland and the haddock lacked flavor and seasoning. The hand-made pasta was dense & ate heavy. For entrees hovering $40 to $50 dollars, one would expect a little more finesse and attention to detail on the flavor. That being said, we have a lot of friends who love this place and we can see why. There are still many positives. Our experience was that the large-sized portions possibly masked the intended flavor. It wasn’t a home run for us. We did have fun though. No slight on the staff and the business, as they all were working hard and have a great reputation locally. I would recommend that people try this establishment. You might find it as a...
