Restaurant Review: A Tale of Style Over Substance
Tucked away from the urban hustle, this Chinese restaurant impresses with its stunning interior and exceptional service. The space itself earns a solid 10/10, featuring a spacious layout complete with a picturesque koi pond, making it a fantastic spot for photography enthusiasts and those seeking a touch of luxury while dining.
Despite the visual appeal and the outstanding service from attentive and caring staff, the culinary experience leaves much to be desired, especially considering the high expectations set by the upscale ambiance and steep prices. The dishes, particularly the Peking duck, lack the depth and flavor one would anticipate. The meat is tender but not juicy, with spices clinging only to the outer skin, which disappointingly lacks the crispiness expected of such a classic dish.
The menu’s oddities, such as mushroom cheesy baos with jambon bacon and cheese, drift far from authentic Chinese flavors, adding to the culinary confusion. Even the crispy pork, which might have offered some redemption, was merely satisfactory. The pork skin was indeed crispy—thin and light rather than thick and hard like lechon—but this alone couldn't salvage the overall mediocre food quality.
A significant letdown was the extravagantly priced crab and bird's saliva soup, costing 1.3 million VND (around 55 USD). The soup was overwhelmingly salty and had a way too slimey texture that was far from pleasant, severely undermining the value of such an expensive dish.
Ultimately, while the restaurant excels in service and atmosphere, the food fails to match up. Even the most beautiful setting cannot compensate for the culinary shortcomings experienced here. With an overall rating of 4.5/10, substantial improvements in the food quality are necessary to make this restaurant recommendable. For now, diners might find better satisfaction in culinary terms at other venues, despite the less...
Read moreHaving tried all Chinese restaurants in town, I can confidently say this place ranks amongst Top 2! (Ming at Pan Pacific may share #1)
Arguably out of town location, but I find it perfect as a family getaway meal: serene settings of Vinhomes riverside, child friendly, elderly friendly, easy to park, quiet and private.
I'd usually order the standards e.g. 3-egg vegetables, peking duck, roast pork, buffet dimsum. Food quality is very consistent across dishes, and across visits. And consistently most competent compared to other available Chinese in town.
The other reason I love this place is for its value for money. Crystal Jade at JW Marriott does an equally good job i.e. Great food quality & service, yes, but at ridiculous pricing.
This place has always been my default go-to whenever our family is craving a propoer Chinese...
Read moreIt is true that the restaurant is nice and food is good. I took important customers here and had lunch and dinner so many times. Every time I ate here, I asked for invoices so that I can get an reimbursement. They took so long and made me wait receiving my email address and so on, but not even once... they never gave me the invoice. This is also true for other restaurants and stores in Almaz. I will never take any customer to this sneaky...
