Yes. Truly a lovely space. Well worth a visit, but not for the food. Simply a nice respite away from the city where one can enjoy the traditional architecture and a glimpse of what life in the countryside might once have been like. While the food itself was a disappointment, the sauces served with the food were unlike anything we’ve had “in town”. Prices were modest and it was fun watching the food being prepared in a traditional setting. More than anything, an experience worth having. For the more adventurous sorts, it may be more interesting, as at least one reviewer has suggested, to seek out another more humble riverside eatery located near any of the rivers on the outskirts of the city and to sit and watch a more humble offering of food but in a place where the local people go to eat, rather than a place such as this which is clearly set up for tour groups are led by enterprising tour operators. If you wish to visit in peace, a weekday (M-Th), is recommended. Very glad to have made the trip. Next time I’ll try to make a visit to a more authentically rustic sort of place. Even so, it’s increasingly difficult to find this sort of food offered in a place showcasing this kind of well preserved architecture. Definitely worth visiting while in Nha Trang. Avoid weekends and holidays unless you love being in the middle of masses of tourists (mostly Vietnamese though they may be).
Update: I returned to visit this restaurant (full disclosure, I was invited back by a staff member) and learned a great deal more about the food choices and the opportunities learning about traditional culinary culture, as well as about the lifestyle of past times). As I was able to sample a broad range of available choices I realized that I had simply not made the best menu choices the first time. Anyone interested should see the attached videos to get a sense of the broad range of menu choices on offer. An ideal time to visit might be in a Friday, Saturday or Sunday evening when an extensive buffet is offered for $10 (250,000 VND). If I were to choose only my favorite foods on the buffet a full five stars would be warranted.
Definitely recommended for anyone who wants to sample a wide variety of traditional foods and learn more about Vietnamese...
