We stayed in the bungalows. It was a little too rustic. There were no lockers for our things or locks on the bungalow doors. Anyone could just walk in and take our stuff. Half the time the wind would just blow open the bungalow doors.
The showers had no privacy so, we had to shower late at night after everyone when home. The showers had saloon doors. These doors ensured that no one could see from my upper thighs to my navel.
It might have been a little better if we stayed in the dorm rooms. They have their own showers with four walls; no ceiling over the showers though.
The Beach Bar and the Villa are run by the same people. They are like Old Navy and the Banana Republic. In the brochures for the Beach Bar/ Villa there is a photo of an outdoor pool. We weren't sure where it was or if we, Sand Bar guests, could use it. Another SB guest, told us where it was and that she swam in it with no problems. We went to the pool. There were no signs saying for Villa guests only.
So we dived in. Ten minutes later some staff members came by and told us we had to pay 5USD per day per person. We tired to explain that we weren't there long and we would get out, but they charged us anyway. Then they told us that since we were charged we could freely swim in the pool for the rest of the day until the pool closes. It was 6pm.
The guest who told us about the pool didn't know about the $5 charge. I think the staff leave it ambiguous to make extra money.
Also if you hang out at the restaurant in the evenings, you will get bitten by sand fleas.
Pro Very near the beach. The beach was nice, but a little too rough that time of year. Quick and curious service
Con no locks or lockers no privacy in the showers The food is a bit overpriced for how it tastes. Sand fleas come...
Read moreA great hidden escape! You'll share the beach with max 7 other people (8 loungers available) plus possibly some locals hunting for seafood along the beach. There is more seating available set back from the beach in the bar area. We went for the day, paid 150kVND per person (150k on weekends, 100k on weekdays). As everyone says, this is offset with your food/drinks. This place is rustic but you have to remember this is not an established beach resort in general, so what you're getting is well ahead of any tourism curve! Pat yourself on the back for beating the crowds and enjoy! The sea was rated as too dangerous to swim in, although I think this is related to time of year (March). Having said that, if you're up for a bit of exercise and don't venture being waist deep, you can get a decent swim workout by swimming parallel to the shore, although I wouldn't recommend children enter the water, even with an adult. Yes, the food and drinks are more expensive than small roadside places, but you have toilets, showers, loungers and a clean beach. Definitely recommend it over Ana Mandara (we went there on a different day and although you get a lounger, towel, use of the pool and a free soft drink for 200k, the staff were downright rude and everything was really overpriced (eg 40k for a beer)). For the runners out there, the sand is too soft to run on (I tried), quit the effort and have a...
Read moreI had read the same reviews as my title, but thought I'd give it a go anyways. Well, they were right. There is a concrete duplex w 2 separate rooms each w/ensuite, fan, electricity, mossie nets, & thatch roof. There is another more rustic hut w/8 bunk beds & separate bathroom/shower (2). The linens were good, a plus when the weather is muggy & hot. The pillows & toilet paper were good & hot shower. But the concrete building duplex is old, nothing really 'closes' properly, & there was no soap provided, kinda odd for the price. Luckily I had my own. I got the breakfast included. If you are really hungry better get the chicken soup. It was good, thick & filling. The dinner & drinks are expensive. 180vnd/dinner, 30vnd beer, 65vnd cocktail. So that completely wipes out any bargain you think you are getting for a room. I don't mind paying for a spot near the ocean, but the overall value just want there. Stay in the city & get your beach fix somewhere else. Also, a recent storm came thru and wiped out most of the actual beach area anyways. Not sure of repair plans for that. It was quiet and peaceful as nobody else was around. And all the staff were very pleasant and attentive, despite other...
