It's kind of crazy how many of these sites exist where they do. Unless you're looking for it, you probably wouldn't even know it was there. The trees lining the walkway up to the castle really set the tone for the incredible structure that's still standing after so many years. Zakimi Castle is a near perfect example of Ryukyuan Gusuku Castle. As one explores the Castles on Okinawa Zakimi is probably the best castle to start with. You can drive up to and park at either the back gate or just below the main gate. The hill you walk to either gate is relatively gentle compared to some of the other castles on the island.
