Of the many fortresses I've seen in my life, the Albanian Castle of Kruja stands out through the old walls remains and beautiful view over the town and hills, but mostly for the incredible part of history of the 15th century, well reflected in the history museum. The strong figure of the national hero Skanderbeg and his success in uniting all Albanian provinces and in winning 24 out of 26 fights against their conquerers....well, that's my idea of manhood! :) You should read more about him and his warriorr sister, Mamica Kastrioti, it's really impressive. Just like Romanian National hero Steven the Great and his mother, who also lived in the same century and defeated the Ottoman invasions.... I liked the Kruja guide's presentation, precise and concise. Be careful with the narrow street up to the fortress, it was a real skill test for our bus driver. When I visited, I couldn't see the Ethnology museum inside the fortress, but there's plenty of beautiful traditional costumes at the souvenir shops around the citadel. Cheap prices of objects and food, but unfortunately that's also because the average income of Albanians is around only 90 euro per month, as informed by our local guide.... Landscape in Albania is beautiful, with green hills, valleys and rivers. Another place that changed a lot to look nice for tourists is the capital city, Tirana.

The Kruje Castle is a must-visit attraction when you travel to Albania. Situated high on a hill, the castle is an impressive sight to behold. The castle was built in the 5th century AD and served as a military fortification for many generations. The first thing you'll see as you approach the castle is the large drawbridge that spans the moat. Once inside, you'll see the remains of the walls that once protected the castle, as well as the ancient ruins of the city that once surrounded it. One of the highlights of the Kruje Castle is the spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding areas. You can see for miles, with rolling hills and gorgeous landscapes stretching out in every direction. Another must-see attraction is the Skanderbeg Museum, which is located inside the castle. The museum explores the life and accomplishments of Skanderbeg, one of Albania's most famous national heroes. There are also plenty of shops and restaurants located conveniently near the castle, so you can easily spend a whole day exploring the area. Overall, the Kruje Castle is a great place to visit for history buffs and anyone who loves breathtaking scenery. It's an iconic landmark with a fascinating history that will leave you feeling inspired and awestruck. Make sure to add it to your list of places to visit in Albania!

The place is free to visit, in renovation and with an awesome view towards the city. Right before the entry there are lot of coffees and a bazaar ("charshiya") with all kinds of items. Bring cash though, they wouldn't serve me coffee because I wanted to pay by card. More than anything the view and mountains behind the castle are more impressive than the castle itself. It's a really small one. A mosque is being built next to the turkish baths. It'll probably be better in a few years. Traffic is horrible. As far as I understand a sat/sun visit may take x5 time because of inability to leave.

A must see and visit when staying in Tirana. This is a very important part of Albanian history and Albanians in general. This castle was built around 5th century and was the castle of the famous Skanderbeg. The castle was restored and is kept very well by the town of Kruja. Inside the castle it’s a museum which cost about $5 to enter. Unfortunately you won’t see there the original sword and helmet of Skanderbeg. The original ones are in Austria because many countries in Europe claim that Skanderbeg is theirs. Few restaurants around the castle to enjoy the best views in the town of Kruja.

Lovely castle, quite hot in summer, due to lack of trees,Have that in mind. Park a bit lower if u are with a car, the streets are narrow. 2€ is parking for whole day. There is a sign for more parking places, but going till the end with car can be challenging in my opinion. Entrance to the castle is free, however museums inside charge entrance fee. There are 2 restaurants inside with amazing view and moderetaly priced (see last.photo for the view). I liked the town, a bit too many illegal huge buildings destroying the view, the old bazaar was quite nice as well. Enjoy!
