An incredibly important pre-Colombian and even pre-Inca civilization archeological site, with traces of human habitation that date back more than 10,000 years. This fortified city that at its peak housed over 2,000 inhabitants was originally built by the Omaguaca tribe around the 12th century. Unfortunately not everything is original / preserved, but part of the Pucará was rebuilt in the last centuty (it was re-discovered 1908) and a monument "in the style of the stone houses" was even added in 1935 to commemorate the archaeologist who first excavated the land. The location was strategically chosen to be easily defensible and to provide good views over a long stretch of the Quebrada de Humahuaca and the views are still spectacular today. The Pucará de Tilcara was declared a National Monument in 2000, and is the only publicly accessible archaeological site in the Quebrada de Humahuaca. Highly...

After visiting the huma supay village, machu pichu and this place you can notice the common cultural origins of the americas. The low rate is due to the arbitrary attitude of those watching the fortress regarding drone photography. There is not a single sign stating that is prohibited. Not at the entrance no on the way in. But these people, I can't call them park rangers, coming from nowhere saying that you can not use drone for photography. When I asked them why their responses were that is because of the animals. I understand the reason behind that, but places with fauna that can potentially be affected by these devices clearly have the information posted at the main entrance. So you can not misunderstand the policy. I think these natives were trying to make an extra income of the situation. Not...
