The only ticket you need - entrance to the national park (depends on ars rate you can buy it in advance or when come there, if rate goes up - probably you should buy, in our case the price went up from 10k to 12k). Parking is free. On a car it takes about 1.5h from Al Chalten.
We had a glacier tour - so we came there before the tour in ~1.5h hours in advance. We ran out of time (visited only a central and a bit of lower trails, then came back to bottom parking and went to a coast view). I would say 2-2.5 hours should be enough. Road to port takes 5-10 mins.
There are 2 parking lots: the regular one (then your take a bus to the upper location, it goes each 5 mins), and upper location. Both places have something to see.
There are 3 main walking trails: inferior (to see a glacier from the left side 1.2h), center (1h, has accessible stairs for wheelchairs), de la costa (from upper location to button parking, ~1.5h).
You can see there fallen pieces from glacier quite often, I would say each 20 mins. So take a termos with tea and watch how glacier changes...
Read moreThis is something you can not see anywhere else in the world! At least this easily accesable. You have to park the car where northern port is. From there free of charge a small bus will take you to the main attraction - Perito Moreno Glacier. There are walkways where you can easily walk around and be amazed what you see before your eyes. The huge glacier. You can hear the cracks all the time and if you are lucky enough you might see some huge junks of ice break off and fall into the water as they make quite the noise and waves. This is something spectacular! Entrance to park was 5500 ARG per person. There are some kind of discount for students. But I don't know if this applies for international students or just for the Argentines. If your schedule allows you to I would suggest one of the cruise ship tours. I would suggest to take one from the northern port because that is the side you are most likely to see some of the ice to break off. From the southern port on the other side you are going to get closer to the ice wall, because ice do not break off in this...
Read moreIt was a spectacular site to see this glacier which is pretty unique in the world as it still moves forward.
Most glaciers are getting smaller and smaller but not this one.
Going down the walkways you get closer and closer to the ice mass but be careful at the lowest level. When a large piece of ice brakes of, which you can hear coming by the cracking noise, it may produce a large wave that can reach you.
On a very rare occasion the ice blocks the flow from the small lake om the left making it to fill up. Then once in a while the ice buffer brakes leading to a rapid release of water. You must be lucky to see that.
The sight of the ice with the blue coloured fragments is stunning.
You can reach the glacier with organised tours that depart...
