Arakoon National Park, NSW: A Hidden Gem with Stunning Rocky Beaches

Arakoon National Park is an absolute must-visit for nature lovers and beach enthusiasts alike. Nestled on the Mid North Coast of NSW, this park offers a perfect blend of rugged natural beauty and serene coastal charm.

The highlight of the park is its breathtaking rocky beaches. The combination of smooth boulders, jagged cliffs, and crystal-clear waters creates a picturesque setting that feels like stepping into a postcard. Whether you’re exploring the tidal rock pools teeming with marine life or enjoying the sound of waves crashing against the rocks, the experience is nothing short of magical.

The park is also home to the historic Trial Bay Gaol, which adds a touch of history to your visit. From the gaol, you can take in panoramic views of the coastline that stretch as far as the eye can see. The walking tracks, such as the Monument Hill trail, are well-maintained and provide fantastic vantage points for photography or quiet contemplation.

Arakoon National Park is perfect for a day trip or a weekend getaway. Facilities like picnic areas and nearby camping grounds make it an excellent destination for families, couples, and solo adventurers.

If you’re seeking a peaceful escape with stunning coastal scenery, Arakoon National Park should be at the top of your list. Don’t forget your camera – this rocky beach paradise will leave you in...

Arranged to meet family here for a BBQ lunch. Well all BBQ,s and any shelter and seating had been removed from the duck pond area. The shelter shed and BBQ,s at Little Bay were roped off due to falling ceiling it said. Obviously due to a lack of maintenance. Ventured on to Trial Bay. The large BBQ area had been walled in and looked like you needed a key to access. Probably had to pay to use now no doubt. The other TWO BBQ,s were already being used so ventured further around to the north side below the gaol. Although the seating and shade remained, the BBQ,s were either cemented over or demolished. Where the one that had been knocked out, there was a large hole left in the concrete and debris scattered everywhere. Luckily my son was able to bring his BBQ from home so it wasn't a complete disaster. Just another example of lack of management, those of which are probably paid Alot of money, so that there are no funds left for public facilities. Shame as this is one of my...

Love this area as it offers walking tracks, birds & animals, beach for swimming/ enjoying, the rocks for climbing/ sitting on, great view of whales and beautiful, clean water. It is tranquil with many different spots to stop that have plenty of parking, many tables/chairs (couple undercover) BBQ's & places for families to kick a ball. There is the caravan park next to the Trial Bay Gaol, yet day visitors can use this road to park down along the waterfront. The Gaol is interesting and $11.00 entry fee per adult. You have to be mindful of the kangaroos in this area, and there are signs to not feed them. If you love photography, you will always get some fab shots here! This area is my personal fav of SWR and can't capture the beauty, ruggedness, daily changes and peace this place brings to my...

We loved the lookout vantage points for the tourist photos, that we took tonnes off (such a beautiful stretch of beach, ocean and national park). You'll find Smokey Cape Lighthouse at the tip. Unfortunately, although there is a pathway from the carpark to the lighthouse it is definately NOT disability/mobility challenged friendly. They do have a couple of disability parking spots, but that's where it ends. It wouldn't (and didn't) make a difference if you have a scooter as it would be a big struggle for it to get to the top. We watched young for people struggle to negotiate the accent and decent of the path as the gradient of it is extraordinarily steep, especially the last third of the way up. This is why i give it the 3 stars, otherwise i would give it 5.
