It’s about 800m downhill from Smoky Cape Lighthouse car park along Jack Perkins Trail - and 8km back! Well, it seemed like that. The trail is pretty steep, and is gravelled all the way so sturdy shoes are advised. But when you get down to the end of the trail you’re rewarded with pristine beach, plenty of exploration possibilities on the rocks, and some of the softest sand on the north coast. Even on a day of strong southerly winds, the sheltered southern end of the beach in glorious sunshine is serene. It’s also reasonably safe for kids to paddle in this southern spot - supervised of course. Apparently this is a clothes optional beach - something I wouldn’t consider on that day of strong southerlies in exposed (no pun intended) parts. Highly worth the walk to get there. Beware - I noticed rips, so don’t risk swimming if the sea is boisterous. There is no mobile phone reception either.

An 800m walk down from the Smokey Cape Lighthouse carpark brings you to a gorgeous unspoilt beach. Path is well maintained and easy but there are stairs. It is all uphill on the way back.

Very easy walk down to the beach. Secluded, beautiful sand. Saw whales playing just beyond the waves. Stunning bit of coastline. Water was crystal clear

A beautiful secluded "clothes optional" beach, a relatively steep 800m walk below Smoky Cape lighthouse. Waves are often large with rips present. Surfing and fishing...
