Pleasant walk, but there are better ones in the area. Lookout is small and behind a lot of tall trees (not up on a cliff edge as I expected), so you can just see the top of the lighthouse far in the distance. Another hiker turned up while I was there, looked uncertain and said to me "is this meant to be the lookout??" so I'm not the only one underwhelmed. If really you want a short walk and are up that way anyway, it's fine. I wouldn't make a special trip out just for this location though. (BTW the lighthouse area is not free to enter, so if you want to see it, you'll have to pay to get in unfortunately. The lookout is really far away and not a great alternative.) Edit: A lot of reviews are for the lighthouse station. This is not the same area. The lighthouse station gets you closer but is paid entry only.

I went to Cape Otway Light Station on the 22/7. Right from the beginning everyone I spoke to was lovely and clearly very passionate about the history of the location and eager to answer any questions. Big shout out to Richard and Benny who were both amazing to talk to but also gave me loads of suggestions for locations on my road trip (absolutely lovely gents). The views were breathtaking and certainly worth the stop by. A great place to watch the views with a coffee and brekky.

Arrived at 4.45pm so had missed the last timing to see the lighthouse, which we thought was crazy given daylight runs until 8pm this time of year Opted to go on the after hours signposted walk. Was not worth it for us. Swarmed by flies and only to see a tiny distant view of the lighthouse. Past the entrance of this walk it was not signposted either and there was nothing to indicate we had reached the lookout save the actual view of the lighthouse.

The lighthouse has been closed due to a mercury leak so you can't visit it. We were charged $25 and all you can do is wander around a few derelict buildings and a mown grass area. There aren't really any decent ocean views. The toilets did not have any running water with which to wash your hands. There were signs saying "no drones" so if you want to fly a drone, be discreet where you launch it from. They should not be charging anything until the lighthouse is open. My suggestion is to skip...
