Before starting your adventure, check for National Park Alerts on the Qld Gov website. Tracks can sometimes be closed if backburning or other fires are in the area or wet weather has made the track too hazardous. Only a very short drive from Biggenden to the signposted turnoff, then a picturesque few kilometres of dirt road in reasonable condition gets you to the picnic and parking area. The story board at the picnic ground provides interesting history of the area. The walk on the mountain is quite challenging, steep for the most part with very loose stony terrain. If you take your time and are in reasonable health, the expansive views are worth the climb. Round trip is about 2.5 hrs. Take water, sun protection and wear enclosed shoes, walking poles can be handy for assisting the descent. Read moreUtopia rock pools were amazing It's a bit of a hike from the car park and the rock face where the pools are can be pretty steep so unless you're sure footed I wouldn't attempt it. There were 3 main pools and the water temperature was devine, very cool for a hot day. We took a couple of pool noodles for the kids as the pools are quite deep in places and the rock water slide definitely kept them busy. There aren't any amenities there it's all bush so we did a loo stop in Bigenden and stocked up on goodies before we went up. Take lots of water, lunch and sunscreen and thongs or something for your feet as the rocks get hot. Great experience!...
