Sometimes it's good to get out of your comfort zone. Alltrails rate this climb as difficult and although the length is only 3.5km return, the ascent is around 500m from the car park to the summit. There are very good toilet facilities at the car park/picnic area which is around 8km from Biggenden, but the information board map of the route is poor. The initial section is easy, but when you reach the sign stating 'experienced bushwalkers only beyond this point' you know the trek will become challenging. The route is pretty much straight up towards the imposing bluff, with a fair amount of loose boulders and some small rock scrambling. Coloured tags and a few painted boulders mark the route reasonably well. Beneath the bluff there is a short rope section which is not too tricky, but shortly after there is a large boulder which requires some climbing skills. The reward shortly after at the summit is well worth the effort with spectacular views in all directions from the sprawling plateau. We found the decent more challenging, requiring plenty of bum sliding. Sensible clothing, especially footwear, plus lots of water are essential and personally I would not attempt the climb in summer months. The quads are still sore two days later but this was a great full-day family bonding experience.

Steep climb to get the heart going. Lots of loose rocks and good scrambling towards the top. Lots to explore around the summit. Awesome views.

Mount Walsh is breathtaking from below and amazing from up top. It is not a long climb but it is sustained elevation gain with some fairly sheer rock faces at the top, so wear clothes you can scramble in. This is one to climb in winter as it can get very hot in summer and if it's been raining there can be be some slippery bits. There are lots of faint side tracks and areas to explore if you're adventurous. There is plenty of fauna around the mountain. The carpark has very good toilets, lovely sheltered tables and rain water tanks. But bring water as there is no potable water here. There is no camping at the carpark and plenty of QPWS signage making that clear! The gravel road was being upgraded in June 2025 so access should be very smooth and easy for a while. If you are at Mt Walsh it is well worth driving a bit further down the Maryborough road and taking the turnoff to the Arcadia Pools hike which is...

We hiked to the summit at midday in 31°C - we were carrying around 6L between two of us. I think it's a great and challenging hike, with ropes up very steep rock faces. We were carrying water, first aid, torches and food etc - and I'm glad we did with some of the steep slopes.

Do not attempt to go past the "experienced bush walkers only" sign in thongs/flip flops there is a lot of loose rock/scree. Some of the climb ups are too steep for children. I'm 5'3" and struggled to get my leg up on some of them.

Views are great. No litter. Not obviously marked - so keep your wits about you looking for ribbons or spray dots on rocks and trees.

2.5 hours up with a lot of stops due to heat and about 2 hours down. Some sections required us to ...
