Tunnel View Lookout gives you a classic Blue Mountains reveal with almost no effort. From the small roadside pull in, a short bush path threads through scribbly gums and opens onto a fenced platform that faces a sweep of rugged valley and sandstone. If you time it right you will catch a train sliding from the tunnel far below, a quick flash of steel that puts the scale in perspective before the bush swallows the sound again. The air smells of eucalyptus, the cliffs shift from orange to pink as the light moves, and it is very easy to lean on the rail for longer than you planned while the view keeps changing.

Photographers and families will both find it friendly. The track is short and mostly even, with just a couple of rocky spots where sturdy shoes help, and the lookout itself has plenty of room to shuffle for a better angle without crowding anyone. Early morning often brings soft pastel skies and a calmer breeze, while late afternoon adds deep shadows across the gullies that make the ridgelines pop. Bring binoculars if you have them. You are likely to spot wedge tailed eagles riding the thermals or small flocks of cockatoos cruising the valley edge, and after rain the greens look extra saturated.

Practical things matter here. Parking is limited and there are no toilets or bins, so arrive early, pack water and take your rubbish out with you. Shade is patchy and the rock can hold heat, so a hat and sunscreen are smart even on cooler days. Keep children close near the edges outside the fenced area, and step well back if you are lining up a photo on the bare rock. Pair the stop with a nearby village coffee or a short waterfall walk and you have an easy, high impact Blue...

Decent view but can give you goosebumps. Will shock people that haven’t seen much scenic places yet.

Quite a bit of a walk from the parking area before you get to the viewing point.

Just be extra careful when going here with kids. Open cliffs that are hundreds of meters high.

You will probably go to this place once you got bored staring at Portal Lookout. If you went to this place directly, then, if you get bored, just visit the nearby Portal Lookout. It is a lot better and only a 5-minute drive...

Located near Glenbrook in Blue Mountains National Park, $8 entry fees to enter to this national park per vehicle. Tunnel View lookout features scenic views of heritage train tunnels, wildflowers and birdwatching. Easy to access, 200 meters walking from the carpark. Near the edge of cliffs are slippery. This is an unfenced lookout so please take extra care, especially with small children. The weather in this area can be extreme and unpredictable, ensure you are well prepared...
