The locality is well maintained amenities including parking, picnic areas, clean tables (some shaded by trees), water, toilets, locality map, and plenty of trails. You can even get here by bus, including a free one that ferries people to the lookout from the Botanical garden. I'd describe the surrounding mountain environment as eucalyptus forest. The mixed use walking trails that I walked are well maintained, and reasonably signed. If you like mountain biking then you will more than likely find trails that put a smile on your dial. I missed the waterfalls (main attraction) as we went for a 7km walk along powerful owl trail and past the old gold mine instead, which gave me a new appreciation for my chosen career (must have been a grim and rather unrewarding existence being a gold miner on...
ย ย ย Read moreWell amenitized area. There are toilets near the entrance, large picnic areas with taps all along the tracks. It's a nice area for all types of exercise be it cycling (paved paths), walkers, dog walkers, and also for families to have bbqs. Pity it was really dry still despite the few nights of rain we've had (Feb 2019). With all the creek catchment areas running through this place it would've been superb. Still nice though. The only few things to point out is there needs to be a bit more signage to say you have reached the actual slaughter falls site or to keep going. And the summit track is misleading in expectations when you get there. Instead of some view It actually stops at the main road where cars drive up to the summit lookout and restaurant. Still a good exercise...
ย ย ย Read moreFantastic place for the whole family including the furbabies. The hiking trails are fantastic and the sights along the way are even better. When the falls are flowing the kids enjoy swimming in the little rockpools and sitting under the flowing water. The aboriginal art trail is fantastic and provides a lot of fantastic stops along the way to learn about the ancestors and traditions of the area. Highly recommend spending an evening by the creek with picnic. Also great place for afternoon exercise either hiking or mountain bike riding on one of the many tracks that wind throughout Mt. Coot-Tha. I do recommend taking some insect repellent though as the mosquitoes can be quite thick....
