As an often visitor staying at bush camps we are self sufficient. We have experience of Moreton (Mulgumpin) to know its a most beautiful place, natural beauty everywhere. An incredible island, easy to get around (tide dependent)! Everyone happy and helpful. Great food at Castaways! Gutter Bar lovely to stop at for a beer and food too. Therefore its so disappointing no showers or water in the taps at the toilets at Blue Lagoon campsite or the public toilets at Kooringal. These facilities are advertised in all the up to date information but now these facilities look like they have been in a state of disrepair for some time. Dirty and unkempt. The toilet at the light house was also not functioning and doors didn't lock. Unfortunately this unkempt and dirty environment puts out a very negative message to the public, who eventually will start leaving the beautiful island in a more unkempt manner. If the monies that are collected from the public that visit this beautiful place are not put into maintaining the basic facilities, maybe the basic facilities should be removed, then we know there isn't any facilities on the island! Logistics is not an excuse. During Covid everything was well kept daily.. we know we were here then. You ask we look after the flora and fauna yet fail at keeping basic facilities in an appropriate condition. Moreton is beautiful, don't let's its care fall into...
Read moreThe (overwhelming) positives - A beautiful place to spend some time getting back to nature and enjoying life with family and friends. Love the western beach south of Tangalooma with a board to float over starfish, stingrays and occasionally encounter a dolphin. The gutter bar at Kooringal is definitely worth a visit, just remember the insect repellent.
We camped at Comboyuro - shady with no neighbours too close and our own path to the beach. However we were disappointed with the general amount of rubbish left around and the way previous campers had toileted around the campsite without bothering to cover up their mess. Understand its a bit of a trek to the toilets but surely not that hard to dig a hole in the sand.
Toilets and showers were mostly working. However not sure what the cleaning schedule is for the facilities. Nothing was touched while we were there (6 days). A bit of cleaning/maintenance would really help.
Dry weather before and during our stay and amount of traffic made the tracks pretty soft in places and many were quite cut up making for very rough and slow driving. But we got around the island largely without incident.
Overall though, a spectacularly beautiful place only 90 minutes from Brisbane but seems...
Read moreBooked a one day tour to this island, and the agency picked us up from nearby our hotel in Broadbeach. The vehicle used was a 4WD, drove us to to Brisbane to pick up more participants, then it proceeded to a ferry terminal where the vehicle went onboard the ferry. Pretty cool stuff.
On the island, only a 4WD is able to maneuver its way due to the rough terrain.
First stop was sand-boarding. Climbing up the sand dunes was a tiring task. I only managed to do it twice. Tip: Keep your mobiles and cameras in the vehicle. The sand here is so fine it may just find its way into your devices.
Then we were brought to a beach for a make-shift lunch, before the tour guide gave us the option of snorkeling and kayaking. The experience was enhanced by the fact that there is an actual shipwreck at about 100m...
