Short Sheep Micro-Winery — Attraction in Buckaroo

The visit was the best of all we did in Mudgee. The owner gave us a full tour around all the wines he had, with a lot of explanations and we loved his story and they way he told us. At first I was not impressed with the wine (I'm from Spain, I'm difficult to be impressed by the wine), but I liked it so I decided to buy some bottles. It's a couple of weeks later and I decided to open a bottle of their merlot while cooking... now I'm impressed! It's nothing like I remember. Maybe the one I tried there at the winery was open for too long or maybe I mixed it with the previous one from the tasting, I don't know, but right now, after a terrible day of work and negativity, it has changed my mood. Ah, this may be a micro winery but it is macro on everything else - from Tony's wonderfully engaging ability as a storyteller to his passion for his craft and discipline to let nature do its thing and of course, the wines - complex and delicious! We learnt so much about the various processes during our tasting but weren't overwhelmed with detail - the wines themselves shone. Such an amazing winery with an incredibly talented wine-maker. Well worth a visit. Tony is crafting amazing, bespoke wines using cutting edge wine making techniques resulting in beautifully complex wines that are delicious and special. Very small batch and really just in general an experience not to be missed, especially if you are interested and knowledgable about wine.
