Nice place to visit but do not go with a toddler who gets excited looking at airplanes. My son and I plus another two friends from daycare we’re outside table area between the both north and south wings where the kids were letting out some energy playing Runnig up and down the ramp (not impeding anyone else). My son and friend grabbed a witches hat whilst one of the caretakers was walking past. I ran towards my son to stop him however we got a tirade of angry shouting comments from the caretaker (veteran) telling our kids off in a very angry tone. We were there to do that however it was very rude and not called for especially since we were already in the process of disciplining our kids. They aren’t even 3 years old and we were told this isn’t a playground, damn right it isn’t but we are not in the museum and were outside having some innocent fun. They were not swinging off anything, nor were they touching the displays. Then we sat our kids down to have a snack outside in the designated lunch table area. every few minutes different caretakers would walk past us looking to keep us in check, then the main custodian (I think) came out asking us if there are any issues. I said yes, the kids were just playing outside having fun not destroying anything or hurting anyone, they are toddlers having fun. Then she told us about a no running rule, I said no worries we won’t run however we are not in the wings we are outside?? Then we were threatened that we would be asked to leave if we don’t comply. We ate our snack and then headed off, we all carried our sons out through the main wing just to make sure we don’t do anything wrong! We felt very unwelcome from the start, I don’t think they appreciate kids at the museum unless they are strapped to their parents. I won’t be going there again and do not recommend people with toddlers unless they are strapped to their parents or in a pram so they...

We spent a thoroughly enjoyable few hours at the RAAFA Aviation Heritage Museum. It contains an amazing display of different types of aircraft including an imposing Avro Lancaster (brilliantly placed for maximum effect when you enter the hanger), a Catalina flying boat, a Tornado GR4 and many others.

The museum is more than just the planes, though. If you can imagine it, we're pretty sure this museum will have it. There are so many displays and items with such rich histories. It was great reading about not only the pioneers of aviation in Australia, but the many people who have made an impact in the field - the unsung heroes, including those who provided much needed support and supplies to the outback regions.

It really was humbling to read about Australian aviators during wartime missions. What they faced and endured during these times was extraordinary. We got the impression that sometimes they held their aircraft together with an ocky strap, some gaffa tape, and headed into the unknown with a typical "she'll be right, mate" attitude.

Everything is laid out very well, and explained perfectly. We learnt so much during our visit.

There are volunteers throughout the museum who are knowledgeable, and eager to answer questions and impart their wisdom and experience. We had a couple of wonderful conversations which enriched the whole experience. The gift shop has a great selection of reasonably-priced models and other merchandise as well as an extensive collection of books.

We highly recommend visiting this museum and immersing yourself in Australian...

We had a fabulous time at the Aviation Heritage Museum. I’ll try to keep this short. Visited with a 2.4yr old and 5m old baby. The toddler had a blast.

Reasons to visit/things to see: There are interactive displays, like a helicopter you can sit in, push the button and the rotor blades spin, a small plane they can climb into and “fly” - they are also working on some virtual reality displays that you can sit in and fly for the kids. There are two hangars, the far one with military memorabilia and aircrafts. In between the two are seated tables for you to sit and feed the kids or take a break. The people are so friendly and knowledgeable and patient with the kids.

Hygiene and convenience: The change table area (while not fancy) was better equiped then most of the play centres around Perth! I’d forgotten our change mat — no worries, spares underneath. I’d also forgotten disposable nappy bags, no worries, spares under the change table too. There was also a wooden busy block play toy in the change table area so you can keep your toddler busy while you attend to the baby. It was also super clean! And the tables outside (despite the bad windy and rainy weather) were also super clean. The toddler stopped to eat his lunch and I swear, I ran my finger over that table 3 times and there was not one ounce of dust on it! You could literally eat...

The Aviation Heritage Museum is an absolute treasure for aviation enthusiasts and history buffs alike. From the moment you step inside, it's clear that this museum was crafted with immense passion and dedication. The collection is astonishing—packed with an incredible variety of aircraft, from World War I and II relics to modern fighter jets, all displayed in a surprisingly compact yet well-organized space. What truly sets this museum apart is the depth of storytelling. Every plane, artifact, and exhibit comes with rich historical context, personal anecdotes, and photographs that bring the displays to life. In an era where many museums prioritize aesthetics over substance, this place is a refreshing exception, offering a genuine, immersive experience. The volunteers are another highlight—friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to share fascinating details about the aircraft. Their expertise adds so much to the visit, making it both educational and engaging. Be warned: the suggested 1-2 hour visit time is a serious underestimate. If you're an aviation lover, you could easily spend half a day (or more!) exploring everything. There’s just so much to see, read, and absorb. Whether you're a local or a visitor to Perth, this museum is a must-see. It’s a world-class gem that deserves far more recognition. Don’t miss it!

I visited from interstate. Decent collection of aircraft and really friendly volunteers. Highlight aircraft include a PBY Catalina, DC3, Machi, Canberra, UH1 and the Panavia Tornado (though it was fenced off when I was there - check the website for updates). The last one is the only one in Australia. The Lancaster is pretty special and there is a viewing platform from above that you should not miss (take the stairs at the side)! I was really impressed at the different ways of involving visitors - there is a VR experience, open cockpit and specific tours. As I was short on time, I wasn't able to try these. There is a dedicated learning space for the kids. I was staggered at the amount of models on display too. Only downside is that I visited in summer and the sheds do get quite hot. There is a note on entry they close on really hot days so call ahead. Highly recommended for any aviation buff.
