There seams to be some sort of business using a mismatched rail car as a cafe/restaurant on what is supposed to look like a third track.. but its not its a piece of quad tube.. some old scaffold as a makeshift ramp for an entrance .

I couldn't tell maps how long I waited till I entered of the cost .. I didn't enter of pay a thing .. apparently the rail car opens on bookings .. as for the museum inside the station another case of a place opening part time and when it suits .

If go to see an historic railways station you wont be disappointed, but do take note that is but a shadow of its former self with a covered 4 tracks and platform station . There is an preserved station and a quarter of the roof remaining .. the carriage has nothing to do with this station ..there are at least 3 water syphon remaining and a dilapidated turntable at the end of the line .

Another case of SA railways going to ruwin . Maybe running a part time restaurant out of a carriage might be aimed at saving it , I wouldn't know but the rest of the rail around the station has rotted away or been destroyed sometime after the mining closing down...

First visit July 2023! Entry by donation It is a volunteers operating station 🚉 super friendly! Please notice that it opens 11am to 1pm everyday! Worth for a visit. You can even dress up and take pictures.

Please buy some local made jams and biscuits! They are super yummy 🤤 I am soooo regret that only got one pack of the cinnamon biscuits!

Come back again in April 2024 ! More jams! Sooooo yummy 😋 You can have a night here with Burra Railway Station Porter’s room bed...
