The Julie Burgess - Tall Ship Experiences — Attraction in Devonport

We booked their Twilight/Sunset Sail, which only occurs on Friday evenings, fitted in perfectly as it was Australia Day. It was $80/person for a 2.5-hour sail. The Julie Burgess is docked at Reg Hope Park in East Devonport - there is plenty of off-street parking (and toilets) at the park.

The Julie Burgess is a magnificent 64ft timber topsail ketch rigged crayfishing boat (built in 1936) which was lovingly restored and refurbished in 2010-2011, to enable it to be used as a passenger-carrying tourist vessel.

The boat is crewed and skippered by volunteers, who do an amazing job, looking after everyone and enabling you to relive the classic days of sailing in Bass Strait.

The wind was relatively strong, and when we left the mouth of the Mersey River the swell started to pick up - the skipper, the crew and the passengers Including the young kids and grandparents) all handled the conditions really well (nobody was seasick) but a number of the passengers enjoyed getting back into the sheltered harbour.
