We were hoping to visit the museum on Wednesday morning but found it closed. A man approached us while we were looking in the windows, saying that the Museum has been closed for many years due to lack of funding and staff. Several of the local Elders who had previously been involved "have gone walkabout." It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed following the trails to Mersey View Point, and around the top of Mersey Bluff and down to Back Beach. Along the way we spotted the old Mersey Bluff Cemetery, which is well worth a look. There are gravestones dating back to the 1800s. The cemetery is located amongst the trees just below the west side of the caravan park. Taking the walk with guides helps you appreciate little things you might miss. They give interpretations of petroglyphs carved into rock faces, and point out some of the amazing plants and their medical, spiritual, or nutritional uses. They are happy to answer questions you may have, and are enthusiastic with people who are eager to learn.
