My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon at Drift. We decided to treat ourselves with the shared seafood special. Well worth it, as was simply delicious and like an entree and main course all in one! We then decided to indulge in sharing a dessert but couldn't agree on one, so each had our own and so glad we did as they were divine. All of this washed down with a lovely bottle of Tasmanian White Wine! (Don't normally take photos of my food but just had to, of the desserts. I guess the wine might have prompted me a bit 😊) The service by the staff was excellent even though they were quite busy, as it was a beautiful Friday afternoon during the school holidays. We had a table indoors by the window and it was wonderful seeing all the families and friends sitting outdoors (at tables or on the lawned area) relaxing and enjoying themselves with a drink or casual meals. Not forgetting to mention the lovely views of the beach and across the bay! Afterwards we went for a coastal walk up towards the lighthouse (needed to walk off some calories and alcohol ☺) and on our way back to the car going past Drift, everyone was still enjoying themselves and relaxing, listening to some live music that was now playing outside. What a wonderful spot! Do yourself a favour and try to get here if you can. We were on holiday from SA but had lived here for a few years recently and had never been before, regretfully. Like they say, sometimes you just don't know what's on your own doorstep! Enjoy life, and be thankful for just how lucky we are in Australia...
Read moreMy wife and I went to Drift cafe on a morning spent in Devonport. The general vibe of the place is right up our street.
The atmosphere was lovely and the view from inside or outside is stunning.
I ordered the bacon and egg sourdough toast simply because there was no bacon and egg roll. I can’t mark a place down for not having something I wanted, but a bacon and egg roll feels like a staple that I had just assumed every cafe would serve. I stand corrected.
It arrived in around 10 minutes and it was average at best. The bacon/egg to bread ratio is off. It didn’t feel like it was as full as anything similar I’ve had in other cafes, and I’ve had a fair few. The egg was a little over cooked, but by the time the food arrived (it didn’t take very long) it felt as though the egg was only over cooked because it had been sat waiting for a bit of time before it got to me. It was odd. I’ve knocked a star off the rating because of this.
My wife ordered the brioche French toast which was $23. It’s not often I mention the price in this part because you can see it in the photo I upload, but I mention it because there was only one slice of toast. Similar to the bacon and egg, it felt as though the amount of food for the price was not even close to the same as you’d get at other cafes. The price did not match the food. Knocked another star off.
Aside from this it was good. Coffee was decent, service was lovely, the place was clean and really nice decor.
Would I come here again? Probably not, but if you haven’t been, I’d probably still...
