Visited the national rock garden during my stay in canberra. Can't think of a location that does a better job of pandering to white accomplishment and detracting from indigenous culture. If I'm honest there are definitely actually worse places but still pretty dire. Rocks were really cool scientifally very interesting. Every plaque on each of the rocks had some kind of fun fact about how they have been used by the white people. Like what do i care that it was used for the base of a statue of captain cook? He is not my icon. It's a naturally occurring rock in this country. Don't tell me how as a nation we used it commercially, gimme a bit more cultural and scienific history thank you. My fans know I typically review hospo establishments. So I'll give you a free review for the cafe in the arboretum. Stone cold sandwich, 20 minute wait for coffee. Yeah how good is that? I love waiting almost half an hour for burning hot coffee to counteract the lasting effect of a freezing cold sandwich. Yum guys really yum. View was spectacular. I think I agree with their mission statement. They could maybe use some revision on what information they think is actually important to share. Went with a new eHarmony hookup this time. Last one went up in flames. Trying something new this time. Lets hope they...
Read moreWonderful huge rock specimens with explanatory placards of rocks up to 2.5 billion years ago (formed before Australia was even a land mass). The Rock Garden is located near the entrance to Barrenjoey Peninsula, which is like a magic forest with large open grass fields (all a designated dog off-leash area). Entrance to the Lake is possible (although there are better beaches close by in Weston Park). Perfect for dogs and adventurous humans :-) The Rock Garden itself is walking distance to The Arboretum (1.1 kilometres as the crow flies from the main pavilion). The Barrenjoey Peninsula provides an uncommon view of Government House (probably the best view) looking south-west at its...
Read moreA slight detour off our travels led us to this gem. Probably not everyones cup of tea but if you are into rocks or history you will find this place interesting. Remember firstly that this Rock Garden is very much a work in progress and a lot more is to be done. The plan is great.😀 Rocks here played a part in building our Australia. There are the Federation Rocks one from each state. Gradually more rocks will be added, rocks that help build our nation. We were there to witness the unveiling of a microsyenite rock from Mount Gibraltar near Bowral. Go there to gnd...
