Dairy Farmers Hill Lookout we attended a couple of weeks ago, and this review and being up there bought back some wonderful memories!

Over 25 yrs ago, it was just a dirt road which we would come through the pine forest to access this area to sit up here and admire the views!

Now, if anyone asked me back , then I would be doing a review on this lookout to help others. I would have laughed, but here we are!

This lookout now has a tar road with carparking spaces and foot paths. The big pine trees are over 25 + yrs that I know, which gives great shade back then and now...

The government has done amazing work to this area, with picnic areas to the great Eagles nest display and the friends garden, which is getting better every year as the plants grow!

The view overlooking the CBD of Canberra and Lake Burley Griffith is beautiful on the right day, of course, and where the carparking area is you also have great views overlooking the Western creek area...

During the summer months, be a little careful as there are good size snakes, but they usually keep to themselves. Also, there is a mountain bike track for the more adventurous type of person...

You will not be disappointed with the views, and with saying this, just remember there is no toilet...

The lookout is located within the Australian National Arboretum, Canberra which is beautiful by itself. So please take the time to explore it. Take in the Margaret Whitlam Pavilion and the larger light filled Village Centre. Along with the many forests and the established Himalayan Forest.

There are wonderful sculptures, of the metal eagle and a solar time device a gift from the city of Queanbeyan. The Dairy Farmers Hill lookout has amazing views of Canberra including; Lake Burley Griffin, West Basin and Scrivener Dam that forms the lake. The Australian Governor Generals House. The National Zoo and Aquarium, Telstra Tower on Black Mountian. Views into the City Centre, Australian Parliament House. With Canberra Airport and the City of Queanbeyan in the distance. Red Hill and Woden Centre with, Stromlo Forest Park and Stromlo Australia National University Observation Centre. Continuing to the right is The Cotter Dam catchment area and Belconnen. And so much more all from Dairy farms Hill lookout.

Enjoy the view, it's truely stunning!

It's great to visit on summer days as the breeze from the look out can be quite cool.

It can be quite cold and windy during winter months so dress warmly, so you can enjoy your time spent taking...

Dairy Farmers Hill Lookout, nestled within Canberra’s National Arboretum, offers visitors a panoramic 360-degree view of the city and its surrounding landscapes. Accessible via a short, wheelchair-friendly gravel path, the lookout is crowned by the striking “Nest III” eagle sculpture and an armillary sphere sundial, adding artistic flair to the natural beauty.

The lookout provides a unique perspective of Canberra, distinct from other vantage points. Visitors can relax on the wooden benches, soaking in views of iconic landmarks such as the Telstra Tower and Lake Burley Griffin. The area is also rich in walking trails that wind through diverse flora, making it an excellent spot for hiking enthusiasts.

For those seeking amenities, the nearby Village Centre offers accessible toilets, a café, and a restaurant, ensuring a comfortable visit for all. As a wedding photographer, Dairy Farmers Hill Lookout didn't disappoint! My clients held their elopement here on a hill, with its gorgeous landscape as their backdrop. From their small ceremony to their post-elopement party, it simply was the perfect relaxing location to fully enjoy an intimate celebration. It's no wonder couples choose this famous lookout to elope; its 360 views of Canberra, accessible grounds, and quiet picnic ambience truly make the experience more beautiful and unforgettable. I can't recommend it enough!

We had a wonderful time at Dairy Farmers Hill Lookout in September. It's an easy stop to make with friends, and the views are fantastic. There's good parking, but be prepared for a short walk up to the main viewpoint. It was quite windy and a little cold when we went, but that didn't spoil the fun. Bonus: there are picnic tables and seats if you want to stay a while and enjoy the scenery! #visitaustraliaash #visitsrilanka #visisrilankaash #ashfootprints #canberra #dairyfarmershilllookout #nature #lookouts
