A great facility though the echo from people talking in the huge shed makes it difficult to read and concentrate on what you're looking at. The interactive attractions are fabulous. It was nice to learn about how the RFDS all started and to read and watch how the RFDS has helped people who are isolated and in need of help. I would have loved to learn more about the people that work there, how they deal with the unknown, how many people go to incidents and how they decide how many to send, qualifications of staff, how you can get involved, what roles there are and what paths you take to get employment with the RFDS. It was also frustrating that the interactive screens in front of the main screen go off during the "movie". I was half way through one when it went off. They were the last things we had left to do but not enough time to stay through the movie to do it...I love in alice springs they have a cockpit you can climb through. I assumed it might be the same at dubbo but it's not. The people working here though...
Read moreAn innovative and well worth experience.
The RFDS experience perfectly balances information with interaction. There's enough to read to gain an in depth understanding of the history, stories, projects, but also there are plenty of well made, fun and easy to interact with technological showcases.
From the 8 minute movie, the 'control panel' interaction desk, and hearing people's stories on the round table, to the communications and radios exhibit, and the augmented reality clinical rooms and aircraft, it was truly a wonderful experience.
I came to Dubbo with the primary goal of visiting this exhibit and gaining a better understanding of the RFDS, and I am happy to say that it was well worth the trip. Thank you :)
*The amazing volunteer ambassador told me that they will be opening up a observation deck as well to see live operations around the airport area. I forgot to ask when that will open up, but that's also something to...
Read moreLocated at Dubbo Airport near RFDS Dubbo Operations. The exhibition has interactive displays, and tells the history and current goals of the RFDS. It does this through displays and augmented reality experiences. This includes aviation, showing current and past aircraft. Communications, where you can try a pedal powered radio, or see where any one of the current fleet of 70 aircraft are based or on a current mission right now at this moment. There is a great Cafe on site, where you can have refreshment, a meal or a snack next to one of its retired actual planes, a Fox Moth. RFDS Visitor Experience have a well stocked gift shop, and I would say it has a great selection of shirt, jackets, and memorabilia items that you can take away and actually use. It's just a...
