In the Nt where Crocodile encounters can be numerous, it is comforting to know that Darwin has included, in close proximity to the centre, Lake Alexander and Darwin Waterfront Lagoon. These two places are ideal for a very safe and pleasurable swim in the Arafura sea water that is filtered to these two enclosed locations. Lake Alexander is just past the town of Fannie Bay, man made sandy shores with plenty of natural shade from trees, ample picnic tables and chairs, a small children's play area and a calm clean lake ideal for a relaxing swim or enjoying a paddle board on the calm waters. This is as safe as it gets. There is also ample free parking. The Lagoon is situated close to Stokes Wharf just behind the Adina Vibe Hotel, the complex offers two hours free parking. Great views back towards the city and across Darwin Harbour, lots of history at the "Gun Turrets" and the Darwin Military Museum on the East Pt Reserve and plenty of access to fish along the coastal rocks. A few BBQs scattered around the area can make for a good lunch, they're not too busy except for on weekends. You can walk along the beach if you like crocodiles, alternatively you can swim in the safest lake in Darwin on the other side of the park.
