Set above the Centenary of ANZAC Memorial Boardwalk is Emu Park’s signature monument, paying tribute to Captain James Cook.

In 1770 on his first voyage of discovery, aboard HMS Endeavour, Cook became the first European to chart Keppel Bay.

The work of public art couldn’t have a better location perched on a scenic rise above the cobalt blue sea, with the outline of Great Keppel Island on the eastern horizon.

The monument evokes HMS Endeavour with a sail, mast and rigging, and its name comes from the integrated tubes producing notes in the breeze.

Visiting the Singing Ship was an interesting experience. The sculpture, designed to create sounds with the wind, is an unusual and somewhat charming feature. The sounds are gentle and can be a bit underwhelming, so manage your expectations if you’re looking for something dramatic. The location offers a pleasant view of the coast and is a good spot for a quick break or some photos. If you’re in the area and have a few minutes to spare, it’s worth checking out. However, it’s not a must-see attraction, so plan accordingly if you have a...

A unique and novel experience with its wind-powered musical feature. The design is quite distinctive, and it's fascinating to see how the monument generates sound when the wind blows through it. The surrounding area is scenic and provides a pleasant backdrop, making it a nice spot for a brief visit. However, the sound produced is not very dramatic and might not be as impressive as some might expect. It’s a decent place to stop if you’re exploring the area but probably not a destination you’d go out of...

A very inviting and intriguing sculpture with a great view. We enjoyed an easy walk along a short stretch of coastline and up to the Singing Ship. The music is surprising and beautiful. I would have appreciated a plaque or board nearby to explain how it sings and maybe the reason it was created. These are things that we can mull over on our own, but with kids in tow it's always nice to throw a bit of science and learning into the experience.

A monument to the Navigation skills of James Cook, master of HM Barque Endeavour, who was the first European to map the East Coast of Australia. The singing ship is an interesting construct which makes melodic sounds depending on the strength of the wind. It is currently (late 2023) in need of repairs but still can be quite captivating on a windy day and the sunrises from the point are spectacular.
