I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Mount McKay scenic lookout and it was an absolute breathtaking experience. The view from the lookout was simply stunning. From the top of the mountain, you would see the rolling hills of Thunder Bay. The colors of landscape were simply beautiful, from the deep green trees to the bright blue sky. The hike up to the top was surprisingly challenging and adventurous, not too hard though. It was a great way to get some exercise done while enjoying the gorgeous scenery. I was able to take some amazing photos from top of the lookout. I would highly recommend a visit to the Mount McKay. It is definitely worth the effort to get up there and take in the incredible view.

The hike to the top from the parking area is a bit challenging with loose stone and steep inclines. Would not recommend in the rain because of smooth rocks near the top of trail. Definitely wear good hiking shoes! Mosquito repellent is also imperative! The mile or so round trip is about an hour if you tarry a while overlooking Thunder Bay. The view of the Sleeping Giant Provincial Park makes the hike worthwhile. Wish that there was a marker or something to mark the summit?

$10 entrance fee per car for the day and the hike up from the parking lot takes about 20 minutes. It is very steep and I'd not recommend it for anyone under probably 9 or 10 years old. You can walk around a fair bit at the top for a 360 degree view then you go back down the way you came. It's also difficult on the way down but the risk there is sliding and losing your footing. I would recommend to anyone visiting Thunder Bay. The car look off also has a lovely view.

Nice Views but half is fenced up. I drove my camper trailer there which was a nightmare of nerves through the narrow bridge to get to that part of the reservation. If towing or driving a larger vehicle…find another way! There was trash left behind from other people and people who were “camping” up there. Keep it clean everyone. Looks like some of it is under construction. I was charged $10. I don’t see a need to go back for that price.

Beautiful view of Thunder Bay city and Lake Superior. I loved watching planes take off from the airport. Suggest hitting the place on a sunny enough day so you can catch the colour of the water down below. Word of caution, the not-so-visible trail that starts from near the cross is quite steep and might not be the best for beginner hikers.
