We went on a day cruise which was good value and the captain and crew were very friendly. On arrival they also provided the on shore equipment and advice. Nudey beach rated second best beach in Qld about a 20 min walk from main resort area. While idealic and pleasant but little coral to be found while snorkling. Really enjoyed the glass bottom boat circumnavigation of the island. Still not much coral to be seen. Island has upmarket resort accommodation which appealed but maybe another time. Cafe and bar were good standard set in shade overlooking the turquoise water and beach. As it was a bit too warm midday to take the longer walks best to visit this island in the cooler months. While we enjoyed it and not as busy and crowded as the other options such as Green Island felt it could have offered more options. Maybe a day trip...

amazing experience. snorkeling from a boat with glass bottom, hiking in the forest with awesome POV from the top of the island, paradisiac resort, very nice and entertaining staff. For the hiking, better pick GOOD shoes... It's factually quite a big deal when it's hot. I tried with cheap sandals, they broke on the way to the top and I had to walk 10km barefoot under a hot as hell sun (and hot as hell ground...) Omg I will never forget the pain. The sea turtle hospital does not take visitors on Friday, be careful. To snorkel with turtles, your best chances seams to be on the right side of the main beach (the side opposed to the nudey beach). The nudey beach is also really nice for swimming with fishes into a forest of corals, but you will have to walk about 10 min in the forest to get there...

Lovely lovely place. I went here with my family, we took a Catamaran from Cairns and went there. It took us 45 mins or so to reach. Very pleasant weather, might get too sunny sometimes so definitely carry your sunscreen, or don't carry it if you want a nice tan 😋 We didn't order any food so I'm not sure about that. You can do snorkeling, scuba diving and many activities there. Service is good. Very clean, lovely environment. Washroom is there for both men and women, very hygienic. There is a resort too if you want to nightstay over there. Except from the shore you can explore the jungle area of the island which is equally mesmerising. There is another beautiful beach over there after going through the forest area. Best place for nature lovers. Go for it. Relax, enjoy and have a...

Camped there for 4 nights. Shared with the campground with a max of 2 other tents per night. Spacious campground. Showers, toilets and bbq shared with day trippers. Crystal clear, calm sea just 100m from campground. You can fall asleep to the sounds of the waves, plus some rather loud insects. The Summit track starts right at the corner of the camping ground. An hour climb to the top... an unforgiving amount of steps! But amazing views of the other side of the island. You can turn it into a loop by continuing roundand returning via the Lighthouse track which will be steep downhill.

Very good if the weather's on your side. The hike to the summit is a must-do, as well as a visit to Nudey Beach (despite the name, you should bring clothes) if you're not tired after that, or if you're staying multiple days, go snorkeling. The coral is nice enough if you haven't seen the Great Barrier Reef yet. Be sure to inquire at the dive shop where the best places are. Foxy's Bar offers great burgers for cheap. Sky blue water, coral beaches, pals trees, relaxed atmosphere. Like I said, all you need is the weather.

Fitzroy Island National Park is rugged with diverse landscapes featuring granite outcrops, open woodlands, rainforest, mangroves and coral beaches. This island national park, close to Cairns on the mainland, and its surrounding waters form part of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. Fitzroy Island, named by Lieutenant James Cook, has an interesting history as a quarantine station for the Palmer River Goldfields in the late 1800s, and later as part of an Aboriginal mission growing fruit and vegetables.
