The service was quite good. Lovely British guy served me, 5 stars for him.
Coffee was ok, a bit watery.
The food however was not good. Breakfast is only available at this restaurant on the island from my understanding.
The first day I had the Benedict and the second day I had the english muffin egg meal..
Good thing was that the eggs were runny both days, well done.
However the bagel was not toasted at all? Strange? Just served on plain bread… meaning the meal went cold by the time it got to my table, and was soggy to eat. The english muffins also were not toasted the next day… toast adds texture, paired with melted butter is amazing with breaky, not hard right?
Has the chef ever eaten breakfast?
On top of this the meals had minimal flavour, no salt or pepper or garlic with the mushrooms or anything added for flavour to anything... The hollandaise sauce was from a jar from the supermarket, no flavour, not even salt and pepper again. The ‘panfried potatos’ that were served were just steamed potato and dry on the plate. The eggs were caged, you could tell by taste, they were not nice quality, also poached in some strong vinegar water to top it off.
I used to be a chef so I know that breakfast is easy to add flavour to, but I think all of us that cook at home also know that its not hard to cook a good breaky. Get your chefs to try their meals they make please…
I recommend sleeping in and skipping breakfast, go to Foxy’s Pub for lunch instead. Not that it was that great there either… chips are not hard to cook but they seemed to stuff that up.
Maybe take your own food to this...
Read moreReally bad setup here, in that this is the restaurant you encounter when first getting off the ferry, but they almost always say they are 'booked out'. They have very few tables given the size of the place. When they put tables in the outdoor area, the interior is almost completely empty. Scores of people get off the ferry and get turned away from this place. The other restaurant on the island, Foxy's, doesn't do breakfast, and only opens 11.30am. So if you get to the island on a morning ferry, as a ton of people do, and this place is 'booked out', you have to get a frozen pie or sandwich from the general store, which has the same very limited inventory as a fuel station. So chances are, for most people, you won't be able to sit down for a meal until Foxy's opens. We stayed for a few nights on the island, each time we walked past here, it had several empty tables, yet they consistently claimed they were 'booked out'. Lots of staff were inside, some standing around chatting, cruisy job for them I suppose. We finally ate there once, some of the food was ok but very overpriced with small portions. They should have twice the amount of tables that they currently have, then they might not have to keep telling everyone they are 'booked out' as often! A bit of logic would go a long way. And a very bad idea to have an expensive restaurant right near the ferry terminal. Moreton Island has it right, everyone who gets off the ferry at any time will be able to get a sit down meal, cheap or expensive as they want. Much better than here in...
Read moreFirst like to say all the team members who served us were amazing. Shout if to Hanna who was very professional. The downside is there might be 4-6 servers running food and 1 host. You make a booking you expect to be seated not wait 15-20mins AFTER your booking to be seated. It's not fair to the team member rostered to host to run around when there are so many people waiting. If patrons want to settle the bill, sit at the table they booked in advance etc it should be much more efficient. Clearly a lack of management at the restaurant and the resort. Perhaps an on shift supervisor for the restaurant would be ideal. They would be able to assess its not working and there is broken communication leading to very frustrated customers. In terms of food coming out some tables would have eaten all their meals and their coffees still haven't come out whereas others got their coffees and are still waiting ages for their food.. not to say staff were slow but again I think management need to step in and take control.
Also the wind and rain makes the outdoor areas less than idea. The hotel needs to invest in the clear blinds to block out the rain and wind as they seat so many people outside even with bookings.
There is plenty of room inside to add more tables which is another thing to consider.
Anyway not saying staff weren't professional they were fantastic but it's clear they are doing the best they can with the support they receive.
Did go here for multiple meals and witnesses frustrations from...
