Nudey Beach — Attraction in Fitzroy Island

I can only assume that the people who have posted 5-star reviews of this beach have not been to my home state of South Australia and seen the many kilometres of fine flat sandy beaches we have. This beach does have a lovely backdrop of the forested mainland which makes for great photographs and the water is warm and a nice shade of green though the visibility was 1m the day I visited, so a bit like pea soup.

It has the rainforest right up to the beach which provides welcome shade, but for me the dead coral instead of sand, and steep entry into the water are deal breakers.

If this tiny beach was in my home town it would be the one that no one goes to, for the above reasons.

The water here is always warm unlike my home state so if this is your number 1 priority then I can see why you would like this beach.

I'm genuinely shocked about the claim that this is Australia's no 1 beach - it's not. The worst thing about this beach is the dead coral, very sad, incredibly painful and the fact most of the picturesque marketing for fitzroys nudey beach focuses on one small patch of sand on this beach, meanwhile about 75% of the beach is covered in dead calcified coral. I have grown up in Australia and there's so many more beaches that are better than this "beach". Fitzroy is great for giving the opportunity to do many different activities such as snorkelling and bushwalking but as for this beach - it's a stretch to call it a good beach.

Yes the water somewhat clear, but note many pictures of this beach photoshop the dead coral out. The dead coral is on the ground of the shallow water too so if u want to go in the water, take some caution with your feet or...

Some of these comments are absolutely pathetic. 'Do yourselves a favour & fill up the bath tub' was a personal favourite. Just goes to show how ignorant & unappreciative people are. This beach is stunning, & yes a lot of it is made up of dead coral from the reef & beautful little shells, but you are told about this on booking. & also the walk to nudey beach is not 'painful' I walked bare foot & it was absolutely fine. Some people just aren't satisfied, how you can completely bypass the fact this is a tropical paradise is beyond me.
