Lights on the Hill Queensland Truck and Coach Drivers Memorial — Attraction in Gatton

Let me first say Thank You to all the Truck and coach drivers past and present and to all future drivers. They are the backbone of Australia without them Australia wouldn't be Australia. It is nice to see a memorial other than a military one. It is well maintained and loved by all. They have a memorial day, there are two convoys, one starts at Carole Park Brisbane and the other one starts at Toowoomba and finishes at Gatton Showgrounds. Nice and quite good place to relax and keep the memories alive. I highly recommend going to have a look 😊😊. A beautiful place of peace, emotional reflection. A place to remember and honour men and women of the Transport industry who have lost their lives. All so Read their names on the plaques and poems placed on the wall. Each year around October the Area comes to life with the Convoy of hundreds of trucks on the Saturday coming from the East and from the West , congregating at the Gatton Show Grounds, on the Sunday there is the Moving memorial service, sadly adding more names to the wall and remembering all. An interesting monument, truckers in Qld. Need the recognition. Good picnic spot with covered seating and BBQ. Lovely birding but driest i have ever seen the lake. Centre has lots of information. The museum has high standard of displays with excellent country work on show. Toilets always clean. Restaurant food and service good. A pedal train for kids always a hit. Fabulous " parkrun " round the lake. Returned Feb 2025- favourite picnic spot. Lots of pretty whistling ducks. More...
