Visited the Goulburn Railway Heritage Centre yesterday with friends. Special thanks to Engineer Lorne for showing us around and even delaying lunch. Goulburn Railway Depot is the largest heritage site in New South Wales and showcases the historical transition from steam locomotives to diesel locomotives. A range of locomotives, rolling stock and railway memorabilia are on display. Visit the Goulburn Railway Heritage Centre and enjoy a journey back in time to experience one of Goulburn's most treasured historical working relics - the Goulburn Railway Depot. Built in 1928 and still in operation today, this 42-lane, 90-foot turntable circular depot is an important part of the city's history. In recent years, a group of enthusiastic railway volunteers have formed the Goulburn Railway Depot Preservation Society, dedicated to keeping Goulburn's rich railway story alive. We love this place and will bring other friends here to visit. Thank you...
Read moreWent here between Wagga and Sydney. Absolutely amazing place for rail buffs like myself. A collection of rare and interesting locomotives and rolling stock from all different eras, trains your get up into and touch. Our guide was knowledgeable and knew the history of the trains and local area, not to mention friendly and kind. It’s amazing what the volunteers have managed without significant Gov funding. The old roundhouse is lovely, although it’s seen better days. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Goulburn or just passing along the Hume. It’s accessible to children and older folks as well, for those passionate about the railways or those with an interest in history generally. Don’t be mistaken though, this museum isn’t one of those professional well curated and funded places. It doesn’t need to be and as long as your not expecting that you won’t be...
Read moreWent here on our way back from Canberra. Wonderful workers who are very knowledgeable and clearly enjoy what they do. Prices on entry are absolutely fair, along with the gifts of memorabilia. Partner and I took our 4 year old and he had a blast (he doesn't have a huge amount of stock in trains). He enjoyed getting to go on the trains and see them, especially getting into the Driver seat of the one in the yard and seeing the engine bay of it. If you are going through Goulburn or past it and want to stop in somewhere with the family for a nice look around and learn something, I would recommend going here. The staff were also very understanding and receptive of my child who is autistic. If I ever find myself going to Canberra again, will definitely be stopping in here on the way...
