Stuart Hume very kindly allowed us to visit today even though it is not currently open to the public off season, as he happened to be there himself today. Being filled with several generations of the Hume family furnishings, photos, memorabilia and travel souvenirs adds so much to the warmth and atmosphere of the lovely home. Also hearing so much of the history and changing configurations of the home from its earliest use as a pub, then an exclusive boys' school and then settling as a simple family home, was great 'fodder' for my love of old properties and their stories. In a pretty and old fashioned garden setting, I can imagine it would look lovely in spring and summer. There is also an historical marker outside by the road commemorating Hume and Hovell's expedition passing through that location on their 1200 mile (4 month) trek overland to Geelong and back. I certainly recommend a visit here, on the Braidwood Road, just 5 mins out from the centre of Goulburn.
