Seppelt Winery Review
A visit to Seppelt Winery is like stepping back in time while indulging in the best of modern winemaking. Located in the heart of the Grampians, this historic winery is famous for its underground cellars, which date back to the 1860s. Touring these cellars feels like uncovering a hidden treasure, and the atmosphere is one of quiet grandeur, perfect for anyone with a love of history, architecture, and, of course, wine.
The cellar tour is a standout experience. As you wander through the cool, atmospheric tunnels, you’ll learn about the winery’s rich heritage and the art of winemaking that has been perfected over generations. The underground cellars, known as “The Drives,” are truly unique and offer a glimpse into the past—one of the few places in the world where you can experience this fascinating winemaking tradition.
Of course, no trip to Seppelt would be complete without a wine tasting. Their selection is superb, with everything from bold reds to crisp whites. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable, offering insightful tasting notes and recommendations based on your personal preferences. Whether you’re a seasoned wine connoisseur or just looking to enjoy a glass in a beautiful setting, you’ll find something to love here.
For those interested in taking home a bottle or two (or more!), the winery shop has a wonderful selection of wines, along with local produce and goodies. It’s also a lovely spot to relax and take in the views of the surrounding vineyard.
Whether you’re a history buff, a wine lover, or simply looking for a picturesque stop on your road trip, Seppelt Winery is a must-see. Its blend of heritage, craftsmanship, and hospitality makes it a true standout in the Grampians...
Read moreHighly recommend the winery tour, as well as Easter weekend family day event.
Seppelt, I am impressed. When I first proposed spending an afternoon at the Seppelt Winery, my family and friends were not sold on the idea to spend Easter Sunday at a winery. But, agreed to have lunch their and go. Once they got to the event, they enjoyed lunch, the free live band, children activities (even the adults enjoyed some of them), and the tour of the winery drive.
We highly recommend the winery drives tour, even for children (ours are 7 & 11). Both the adults enjoyed the walk through the old part of the winery including underground drives, and fantastic knowledge of our tour guide. The children and ourselves loved all the different sections of the drives (eg Dame Nellie Melba visit, Prime Minister wine cellar etc), and adults also really enjoyed the sparkling wine tasting at the end of the tour.
The food was of excellent quality and reasonably priced. We had your home made burgers which were the best I have had for a long time, Italian sausage and chicken kebabs that were also excellent.
Thanks again for enabling our family and friends to have a wonderful Easter afternoon together at...
Read moreTom was a great host. We did both the Underground cellar tour and a wine tasting after. He is passionate and knowledgeable and has a lot of local perspective to add. Wines are also very solid, a fun Prosecco, the Salinger NV was a nice touch being bottle fermented for a shorter duration than a traditional method bubbles, so gains some structure but retains fruit/freshness without the yeasty aspects from full aging on the lees. Then we got to enjoy the wonderful Ida and St Peter’s, not much needs to be said on these two, a must try and IMHO a staple in the wine rack. Of note and as I understand it TWE who own Seppelt’s no longer run the tours/cafe/tastings, this has been taken over and is run by a local community business. So a visit not only enriches the palate and one’s cultural and historical insight, but also supports local business and the town of Great Western. If you are staying in the area the Great Western hotel in town serves very good grub with a decent and reasonably priced wine selection to wash it down with. A visit is highly...
