⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Must-See Step Back in Time!
I recently visited the Herberton Historic Village for the first time and was absolutely blown away. The attention to detail throughout the village is incredible – from the beautifully restored buildings to the fascinating machinery, memorabilia, and collections on display. You can really appreciate the time, cost, and dedication that must have gone into locating, preserving, and showcasing these treasures.
One of my highlights was the old schoolhouse. It’s amazing to see what children were taught in the past, and it really makes you appreciate how much education (and life!) has changed over the years. The large white main house is simply stunning – lovingly restored both inside and out – and feels like stepping straight into another era.
The entire township is a joy to explore, and I could have easily spent an entire day wandering from building to building, soaking in the history. My only regret is that we arrived around 2pm and only had a couple of hours before closing. My advice? Arrive early and give yourself plenty of time – there’s so much to see, you won’t want to rush.
A special mention must go to Nicole, who greeted us at the entry/exit reception. Her warm personality instantly made us feel welcome, and her incredible historical knowledge added so much depth to our visit. It’s clear she is passionate about the village’s history and preserving it for future generations – she’s an absolute asset to the experience.
Herberton Historic Village is a true Queensland gem, and I can’t wait to return and explore it...
Read moreIf you're looking for a one-of-a-kind museum experience in Australia, you simply must visit this place. It's easily our favourite museum in the country thus far - we were there for over three hours!
The staff were outstanding - not only did they go out of their way to accommodate us, but they were extra friendly as well. We loved spending time in the tea room, which was charming and cozy. There are tons of picnic tables outside, so feel free to bring your own snacks or grab something from the tea room.
Entry fees are extremely reasonable, and we'd say it's 100% worth it. I would recommend this museum to anyone!
Oh, and if you're travelling with your furry friend, this place is an absolute must-visit. It's probably the dog-friendliest activity we've encountered on our lap around Australia. We appreciated the fact that dogs are allowed in all of the buildings and throughout the grounds - it's not often that you find such a welcoming atmosphere.
To sum up, this museum is definitely a photographer's dream - we took so many great shots! There's just so much to see and do here - we can't wait to come back and spend another day exploring. And if you're interested in history, this is the perfect place to learn about Australian culture and heritage. Don't forget to check out the 30-minute video about the town's story - it's a great way to round out your visit.

Read moreAttended as first timers for the Pioneer weekend...and will go back again and again. Impressive and ever so educational, nostalgic and sociologically rich. First class set up of displays with interesting self guided info and interactive activities. The range of living history available ensures all genders, interests and ages are catered for. This is a perfect whole-of-family day outing - wandering through an old town at your own leisure is just perfect. Cafe has a lovely range of refreshments, bathrooms were clean and the whole place was spotless. Nothing took away from the vintage ambience and the air of learning something new about early life in harsh FNQ. We cannot wait to return and to bring our visitors. Congratulations to the owners and staff on creating a world class living experience of life in a mining town. I think my favourite shops were the Frock shop and the Toy store. Or was it the garage or the apothecary???? Ummmm, the sewing room and newsagents were also right up there. The whole package was well worth it. Entry fee is well and truly worth it. Leave youself a minimum half day, but, a full day is better. Staff are knowledgeable, helpful and passionate. There are plenty of places to sit, rest and reflect...and you can even take...
