Urimbirra is a little over an hours drive south of Adelaide, past the McLaren Vale wine region and just before you get to Victor Harbor.
Three staff are very friendly and helpful. I asked for the best bakery in the area and they pointed me in the direction of the Pt Elliot bakery, helping me with directions.
The gift shop is a tourists heaven with one of the best ranges of souvenir type products you will find anywhere.
The park itself is well set up, large and expansive. Kangaroos are everywhere, and if you get in early enough before others have bought the $1 bag of feed (pelleted animal food), you will have an outstanding experience of feeding many kangaroos by hand all around you. Just remember to keep your hand flat with the pellets on it, and be prepared to feel the weight and pull/tug of their claws on your arm.
It is not a bad experience at all, quite the contrary, but the more timid you naturally are, the more intimidated and frightened you may feel with having such large and powerful animals surrounding you.
So just prepare yourself in your mind first and you will love it, I promise.
I was lucky enough to hand feed a brightly colored peacock also, that was just mingling in with the kangaroo mobs.
The koala enclosure had 6 koalas that are always easily visible. Photo and holding times are throughout the day. We just missed the 11am session and were done by 1pm, so we didn't stay fir the 2pm sesdion. I think there was also a 4pm session.
Three emus, a cassawary, crocodiles, a variety of birds, dingos, snakes, guinea pigs and sheep are among the many other animals you will find here.
It cost around $16 per adult.
We used a 2-for-1 voucher from the Entertainment book, which made it totally worth while.
Plenty of on-site carparking is available. Snack food and drinks are available at...
Read moreSince 7 years my daughter and myself are visiting Urimbirra. We entered with one year pass for those years. Today I bought my year pass again to visit with my daughter. Everything was fine till we wanted to go home and were stopped by a different young lady at the counter telling us we didn't pay enough. I said that I just renewed my pass, but she said that I need another pass for my daughter so I asked her to please disclose those prices to me as I couldn't find anything on the internet neither on their signs. She said that there us no disclosure of the prices. So I asked her why the lady before when I was entering and paying for the pass didn't mentioned anything to me and let us through? I asked her how do I know that she is not making it just up and I also said that I am not prepared to pay for it as it is not disclosed. I would have been totally fine with it if this young lady would have politely apologised for their mistake but she didn't. SHE SAID I AM NOT ALLOWED TI EVER COME IN AGAIN. Her behaviour was humiliating and very rude. I am very disappointed of how you get treated as a...
Read moreBeing the only wildlife park in Victor Harbor, this attraction is fairly hyped, although that is somewhat reasonable given its affordable price and numerous experiences. And it does have great features at a glance, such as highly courteous service and patting with koalas.
However, the actual location is a bit underwhelming, to say the least. Not only is it lacking in facilities, with no restaurants, but the zoo is probably the most diminutive I have been to, with comparatively little diversity of animals. The gift shop is also limited. Therefore, it does have that epic adventurous feeling of other attractions such as Cleland Wildlife Park.
At the same time, nevertheless, it is not overtly overpriced, unlike the Adelaide Zoo (coming just over one-third of its price). For the price and location, though, it is a bit too much to place higher expectations, but there is a slight disappointment that makes it a fine place to visit, but this park is probably a one time experience. t is nice, but there is nothing that is super unique or...
