What an amazing place. Took the family for two night mini holiday and Toured 3 caves. It was spectacular. Fully guided tour with descriptive information as we made our way through the caves. There are also Adventure Tours, when available (check website) I would suggest you plan an itinery and prebook all your tickets, accomodation, etc. Set in a National Park, so do not take dogs $30,000 fine. We left our pup for the day at Oberon Vet from 9am-3pm for a fee of $33 which i though was a fantastic rate. The Caves are surrounded by stunning Australian bush with beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife, wallabies and birds namely but my grandson cleverly found large lizards burrowed in fallen tree stumps and water drogons were sunning in the waterfall. The Grand Arch entrance, another visually stunning rock formation, is also spectacular although at the time we visited, we were escorted via another entry/exit road but we could still gain access once at Caves. You actually entre some Caves within the Grand Arch. There is the blue lake which is very pretty and walking tracks. Due to recent heavy rainfall and flooding (we visited Sept 2022) a lot was sealed off for safety due to falling rocks and some landslides across road, however, I felt quite safe. Just stay within the permitted area and follow instructions. It is well organised and ample staff available for assistance. There is accommodation at Jenolan Caves, we stayed at a Caravan Park in the small town of Oberon which was about a half hour drive that seemed to go pretty quick. I noticed more accommodation on the road we took into to Caves but there is plenty of places to stay through the whole area. There is a Cafe to purchase nice hot meals, sandwiches, cakes, cold refreshing drinks, hot coffee and icecreams, etc. Plenty of tables and chairs around both indoors and outside in the shade or sunshine to enjoy your food. If you have children, the waiting area for tours, has plenty of stimulating sensory things to see and do as you wait & keep all entertained both young and old. In particular, the mini waterfall is within this area. Truly an...
Read moreThe caves are amazing. It is really beautiful to see the wonders of nature underground and it was a good opportunity to discover the difference of dripstones from the cave systems that we have in Europe. Because of the component and structure and geographical aspects, the dripstones look slightly different than in Europe. The overall experience was also good, and the tour guide was also very kind, but you should be aware if you want to go there that online a lot of tickets are already booked in advance. We wanted to visit at least 2 caves in one day that we were there, and online we could only book for the first chosen cave only one ticket that has been left (This was the Orient cave). Due to tight space in the cave, limited tickets are available online, but at site I asked if we could buy another ticket and they squeezed us in. For the second cave for which the tour started 2 hours later (Imperial Diamond Cave) we were able to book online. 3 kms before the caves you need to stop and then wait for an escort vehicle to give you the green light to go up until the parking space as the road is one-way only. The same goes when coming down, you have to wait until they give you permission to descend from the cave. If you want to visit Blue Lake as well, just a short information, there is currently nothing to see there as heavy rainfalls destroyed the landscape and it is full of big rocks there, so the rainfall washed away everything, so they told us there is no point going there. Close to the caves there is a small gift shop and a cafeteria if you want to eat or drink a coffee in the meantime. Ticket price varies at least for the two caves that we visited we paid 60$ and 52$ per person, depending on the cave that you want to visit. Also, it might be useful for some people, this place is a national park, and dogs are not allowed at all. If you plan to go from Sydney, driving there is at least 3 hours, so you can plan a whole day trip to...
Read moreIn August 2023, my wife and I embarked on an epic journey to Jenolan Caves, Australia, and boy, did it rock our world!
Jenolan Caves: These ancient limestone caves are world-renowned for a reason. Stalactites and stalagmites greeted us at every turn, giving the caves an otherworldly vibe. Names like Lucas Cave, Orient Cave, and Imperial Cave only added to the adventure.
Underground Thrills: Our cave explorations were an absolute blast! We navigated narrow passages, entered dramatic chambers, and marveled at crystal-clear underground rivers. The Chifley Cave, with its delicate formations and mesmerizing underground pool, was an absolute highlight.
Wildlife Wonders: Beyond the caves, the Blue Mountains National Park was a wildlife wonderland. We crossed paths with wallabies and kookaburras during our bushwalks. The natural beauty was a refreshing contrast to the subterranean world we'd just explored.
Cozy Lodging: We bunked at the historic Jenolan Caves House, a charming lodge that added a comfy touch to our adventure. Chisolm's Restaurant served up delicious meals with a focus on local ingredients. Perfect fuel for our next exploration!
Conclusion: Our Jenolan Caves escapade was an enchanting blast! It deepened our appreciation for Australia's natural wonders and geological history. The caves' beauty, coupled with the serenity of the Blue Mountains, left us grinning from ear to ear. If you're up for an unforgettable adventure, Jenolan Caves is the place to be.
